Bloc Party: This group is the exception on my list. They sound like a cross between the Killers and Boy Kills Boy. Their latest release is a high-energy album with explosive vocals and lyrics relevant to our present times. It also helps that the rhythm and guitars are freaking brilliant.
Efterklang: The epitome of my current love affair with electronica. An indie group from Denmark, they pair otherworldly digital cadences with hushed, soothing lyrics.
Lali Puna: A cross between Efterklang and Imogen Heap. This group veers more towards electro-pop, but certain songs evoke that detached electronic murmur that sends the listener into a whole other world.
The Album Leaf: After hearing "The Outer Banks" on the O.C., I got hooked on electronica. This group makes great (mostly) instrumental songs that are relaxing and at the same time deeply emotional. Great inspirational music for writing. Listening to the Album Leaf reminds me of standing on a plateau observing a vast, frozen landscape.
Interpol: The most chilled of the chill, Interpol is part indie rock, part electronica, part something entirely of its own making. Both of Interpol's albums are decidedly mellow, as if the singer lives in a world entirely of grayscale. Still, it's fun stuff, with my favorite song being "Untitled."
Tristeza: Ahh, the melodic brilliance of "Golden Hill." That one song says it all. Listening to Tristeza reminds me of taking a walk through a sunny neighborhood in San Diego, with the beach beckoning nearby, and the world bathed in sepia tones.
Gorillaz: As if Damon Albarn (lead singer of Blur) wasn't already talented, with the group Gorillaz he shows the full extent of his musical brilliance/versatility/talent. The music ranges from fun, trippy pop to innovative hiphop to subtle, unearthly electronica.
