*"Chimera", 7x16*

"Do you have a significant other?"

"Not in the widley understood definition of the term..."

That gave me SHIVERS!! Ohhh... I wonder what was going through his head? Well, actually, I can only guess what was going through Mulder's head... : ) Hee hee...anyway, on to a more detailed account of my thoughts on this ep...

Very very interesting episode. I think I actually had a dream about the underlying meanings here, because I woke up this yucky Monday morning with clear pictures in my head about what was really going on in each character's mind. Mulder got a taste of normal home life, while Scully got a gulp of really roughing it. It was almost as if they had switched norms for a few days. Mulder's usually the one who lives on take-out in a messy apartment, while Scully seems to take care of herself and her home a bit more than that.

Aside from the basics, we also saw Mulder taking it all in and seeing that in a "perfect" world, things aren't always as they seem. Ellen, the sheriff's wife, was the center of all the trouble, because what she believed to be her perfect world really wasn't; it was all a sham that she set up so she could hide from reality. Mulder saw all this and understood it from his perspective. Life isn't perfect, in fact, it is far from that. I suppose that no one knows that better than Mulder, but it was interesting to hear his take on it.

We didn't see much from Scully in this ep, except from when she finds the "mysterious blonde" and tells Mulder that appearances are not always what they seem to be. How right she is.

I'm actually very interested in next week's episode. Gillian Anderson wrote and directed it, and it's all about Scully's past, and the life she could have chosen. In light of this week's episode, what with Mulder getting ideas in his head about settling down, I think it's going to be really interesting, the way it all fits in. Maybe a little upsetting, too, but perhaps Scully will get her closure on a life she once could have had, and will be able to come to terms with the one she wanted.

Come back for more next week, and please feel free to send comments in as well! 1
