One-shots or mini-series

Heroes Reborn:the Return

Writer:Peter David
Penciler:Salvador Larroca
Inks:Art Thibert
Colors:Steve Buccellato/Mad Science Media

#1

OK, I admit, I only got a back issue of #1, but I will try to collect the next 3. Anyway, Peter David's work was good. I've liked him since I read his book(Hulk: What Savage Beast). I tell you, I can't wait to get #2 (if I can find it). Sal's art was great. I detect a hint of manga (Japanese animation)in his art. So good was this issue, it gets ***1/2.

Marvel '98 Annual Starring Cable & Machine Man

Writer:Mike Higgins & Karl Bollers
Penciler:Rick Leonardi
Inks:Dan Green
Colors:Matt Webb

#1

I KNOW I've seen Rick Leonardi somewhere before! Help me! Anyway, the issue. The origin of Bastion. WHOOPIE!! Didn't take to long to get around to this, unlike many other stories left hangging. Still, does anyone else find it a ripoff that you have to pay $4.20 ($2.99 US) for two comics JUST to find out Bastion's origin, when it could just be printed in, say, X-Men or Cable. Oh well, I'll still buy #2. "Metalmophisis" gets ***. The art was kinda slopy in places, and Bastion didn't look right.

Marvel '98 Annual Starring Machine Man & Bastion

Writer:Mike Higgins & Karl Bollers
Penciler:Martian Egeland
Inks:Howard M. Shum
Colors:Kevin Tinsly

#2

I suspected Bastion was Nimrod. I suspected Bastion was Mastermold. I did not suspect Bastion was a freak amalgam of the two. Still, this issue was not a shocker. Marvel just took the two most obious answers and combined them together. In fact, I havn't been suprised by a comic since Onslaught was revealled to be Prof. X (talk about a shocker)! Back to THIS comic. I loved the painted cover. I'd just like to know if this means Machine Man is back in the Marvel Universe (I'll have to consult ORB...). So, I give "Deus X Macina" (what does that mean?) ****. The cover gained it extra points.

Marvel '98 Annual Starring X-men & Dr. Doom

Writer:Jorge Gonzalez
Penciler:Aaron Lopestri
Inks:Art Thibert & Jaime Mendoza
Colors:Shannon Blanchard

So, who's this pychic or whatever with Doom? I don't remember him from anywhere. Maybe it's because I don't read Fantastic Four? Could someone tell me who he is? Anyway, I can't really say much about this ish. There wasn't much there. It's just Doom going back and forth in time, going to events I've allready seen (thanks to Essential X-Men vol.1 and various other comics!). Well, sorry Doom fans, but "Doom Quest" only gets **1/2.

Essential X-Men

Vol.1

Woah! Too much comic to review! I'll just give it **** and call it a night. *whew*

Marvel 1998 Annual Starring Deadpool and Death

Writer:Joe Kelly
Penciler:Steve Harris
Inks:Reggie Jones
Colors:Cris Sotomayor/Graphic Colorworks

WOW! I never knew Department K ant the Weapon X program were THAT corrupt! Sheesh! Despite being slightly disturbing, I liked this issue. It was touching in a sort of chaotic Deadpool-style way. The thing is, they never explained WHY Wade could see Death, or why he was so attracted to her (maybe because he wanted to die? Or was it lust?). In any case, it kinda disturbs me. Anyway, this issue was good. ***1/2 for "A Kiss, A Curse, A Cure".

Pint-Sized X-Babies

Writer:Ruben Diaz
Penciler:J.J. Kirby
Inks:A WHOLE buch
Colors:LOTS

Gotta love these cute lttle guys. They're so... cute. It's neat too look at all the paralels with the real X-Men. (Pit-Sized X-Babies, Giant-Sixed X-Men) I loved when Wolvie was eating a chocolate bar and Shower thought it was a cigar. Anyway, you have to read this one to believe it. I'll give "Murderama" ****.
