Police yesterday praised the actions of two elderly Boston residents in preventing the theft of the priceless Voynich Manuscript from the library at Yale University. Irvin Howard Roberts (62) and wheelchair-bound James D Leroy (74) apprehended two men outside the library at 2:15 on Friday morning. A smiling Mr Roberts told reporters ‘We just happened to be in the right place at the right time’.

Coincidentally, after working for years as a writer of pulp horror fiction, Mr Leroy has also been acknowledged in recent times as one of the foremost experts on the ancient manuscript.
