Briefing

DaveG-Frank Furlong was told to find out the cause of the fires. Would have to work with DP personnel as they were sending some of there people to 'help'. Told that arson took place last night at apartment block and the Fire Brigade were in the process of damping down. He was sent there to start his investigation

Kell-DP called in Alexia, as they would like her document the DP investigation of fires downtown. DP said they were certain that this was the work of the terrorist organisation Defiance and would expect her to report that fact. Told that arson took place last night at apartment block. She would meet the Frank Furlong and the DP Team there.

Graham-(Bob) Told that Defiance were committing arson attacks in Long Town and he was to find the evidence to support that fact. The fact that Defiance was guilty was to be proved and if he could make DP look good at the same time would be considered a bonus. An author friendly to DP has also been called in to document these facts. Told that an arson took place last night at apartment block and he and his team would meet Alexia and a Fire Investigation Officer (Frank Furlong) there. No deaths occurred.

Bob introduced to his team. Has to cow some of them into line. The Truck particularly seems to need a lot of menace to get him to toe the line. Alexia and Cassy both seem to be forming some sort of love triangle with Bob (power and all that, it’s certainly not the looks)

The Bolt seems to be prime DP material

Dr Enigma also seems promising

Truck gets 2 Grenades, why?

Initial Investigation

First apartment block.

All burnt out except for ground floor.

Flat 3 loads of expensive HIFI stuff.

Loads of dead bodies, one survivor.

Frank investigating fire in building.

Multiple start points.

Alexia and Bob hit it off. Cassy throws herself at Alexia to help keep "their" relationship hot.

Analysis of remains prove accelerant + ignition element.

Frank asked to pull up reports on the other files + plot them on a map.

List of all known Delta firebugs pulled up. Frank Furlong's name appears.

Bob starts to have an inkling for which Delta might be involved.

Start investigating other fires.

Identify that a lot of the fires have similar fingerprints.

Team's minas Frank come up with an idea on how to infiltrate Defiance.

They start gathering/manufacturing the evidence.

Truck buys an extra 4 Grenades from dodgy dealer from under the counter. Puts them in his backpack.

Frank finds out that there is some sort of planning application in for the Long Town area of the city. Ignored by the team as they have a different agenda.
New Fire

Two days later while investigating at one fire site there is a report of a new fire.

Rush to the new building. Fire teams not there when they arrive.

It’s a three-story tenement; fire coming out of they ground floor. Young lady leaning out of one window on top floor and young man out of a second window calling for help.

Frank goes in to investigate ground floor.

Cassy goes in and upstairs much to Alexia's distress.

Truck venture's in. Starts upstairs but stairs almost give way.

Bob notes blast marks round downstairs window.

Alexia starts writing news story.

Frank explores ground floor.

Cassy explores 1^st moving towards a coughing sound on that floor.

Truck suffers an explosion on his back with a grenade going off in his backpack. He suffers a light scratch. Contents of his backpack fall out and roll down the stairs into the fire.

Bob, Alexia, Bolt and Dr Enigma observe explosion from the outside.

"Defiance Booby Trap" declares Bob.

Truck runs up the stairs and out through the back, out of window whimpering.

He finds a fire escape, which he descends through the fire.

Dr Enigma rescues women from top floor by getting her to jump and trust in his powers.

Cassy jumps out of first floor window with old lady who gets a blow to the head when dropped. Still better than been burned

Double explosion in the front hall of the building. Stairs disintegrate.

Bolt on crowd control duty. Many lightning bolts into the air. Telling of people to clear the area, and then told them to come back after Bob points out the perpetrators might be in the crowd.

Reports come in of second fire.

Dr Enigma rescues man from top floor. He suffers broken leg when Dr Enigma’s powers fail him.

The man tells Dr E that his Wife and Baby are still on top floor.

Bob orders Dr E and Bolt to come with him to second fire. Alexia instructed to keep a watch on the crowd to stop anyone leaving the sit of the crime.

Dr E shows some concern (little) for the Wife and Baby but he is DP so decides to let them burn. Toast Baby Toast.

Cassy hears that there are still people inside so goes up fire escape to rescue them.

Truck has crises of conscious (failed Bravery Trait roll) and decides to help Cassy.

Bolt stalls car spectacularly. Policeman takes over and they are on their way.

Cassy's cropped tee-shirt burnt by flames rolling over fire escape and becomes even more cropped. Much excitement in the crowd at this point. Alexia was getting very concerned about her protege.

Frank exits front of building through the flames.

Explosion behind him from stairs giving him a demonic halo.

Frank runs to his personal fire truck to go to second fire.

Crowd start dispersing unnoticed by Alexia as she is trying to see her would be lover (in Kells dreams).

Cassy finds Women and Baby on top floor and drags them to fire escape. Truck help take them down fire escape. Cassy had been holding her breath for 2 minutes (spectacular open-ended roll by Rob).

Fire 2

Bob, Bolt and Dr E arrive at the second fire yet again before the Fire Brigade. Fire Brigade seem to have had cut backs for some reason in this part of the City.

Fire is taking place in a long two-story office building with the fire going at both ends of the building on the ground floor.

Office staff streaming out of the building through the main entrance, which luckily is in the centre of the building.

Crowd gathering in the area.

Bob, Bolt and Dr E scan the crowd looking for trouble. Spot three people down the street who did not really fit in with the local crowd. Bob and Co start to advance down the street towards their suspects past the office building when an explosion takes place in the office lobby.

A fireball rolls out across the street singing the our heroes lightly.

People who were escaping the building now lie maimed, wounded, dying, dead all over the street with the smell of burnt flesh in the air.

Bob, Bolt, Dr Enigma step or drive round the bodies as they continue to move down the street in pursuit of their suspects.

Bolt warns the crowd to stand still while firing a few warning bolts into the air.

Suspects draw Sub Machineguns and open fire.

Short exchange of fire.

One Suspect escapes, one dies with no head, other one captured.

Rest of the team arrives. Much questioning of reception staff, local Business etc.

Truck makes notes of what he has been told including an email address (Pobox@hotmail.com). This comes from Jones the Butcher and is the address for someone attempting to buy property in the area. Truck decides to keeps this a secret as he can use this to catch the gang and get promotion. Soon he will be in charge, as he has never trusted the management. He tries to use DP threat to get Hotmail to play ball but the French owners of Hotmail tell him to get stuffed.

Bolt signs autograph's and demonstrates his powers to the crowd.

Bob tells the team that by clever DP analysis of the method's of the arsonist's they have worked out that Dracos (a known Defiant) was responsible.

At the end of the day most people went back to base for a rest.

Alexia publishes her report of who DP suspects. Dracos and Defiance named.

Bob puts the word out on the street that it was defiance like anybody in the know would believe him.

An Evening of Action

Frank parks his firetruck with some of his equipment in one of the old abandoned fire stations and prepares to put his own plan into action. This plan had been run past Bob and had been declared a no loss operation.

1) You find Defiance or

2) You find out who is doing the arson or

3) Frank gets killed – Option 3 caused much Glee in the group

Dr Enigma gets his best Black Swirly coat and prepares to go out into the night. He has a cunning plan to get information on the people doing the arsons.

Prisoner back to DP headquarters for ‘questioning’ by Bob.

Truck emails the email address that he found, pretending to be 'Jones the Butcher', a small local shop to arrange a meet.

Party in true RoF fashion now separates into four separate operations.

Frank Furlong’s Contacts !!

Frank get in touch with defiance through some ‘old’ “friends” of his.

Frank gets picked up by a car and the first part of the journey starts.

After much car changing, clothes been removed and replaced, scanning etc Frank get taken into the presence of a Defiance women with piercing Ice Blue eyes. Frank proceeds to try and lie to her and almost gets shot for his trouble. He then comes clean and spills everything. She retorts that he should not bring his internal problems to them and try to pin it on defiance. Just take it from her that they are not involved and this is the Truth.

Frank then gets dumped on the streets with a two-mile walk home with no money or means to get in touch with Bob.
Enigma’s Variation

Dr Enigma, Philosopher Hero and Master of Disguise decides to go undercover.

(Well, he was supposed to be a master of disguise until I realised I hadn’t actually put any points into my superpowers so he then became Dr Enigma – owner of amusing plastic nose and moustache. Hmmmm...still not enough points on my superpowers...let’s reduce my STR to 1 shall I? Yes, that’s better).

In a sleazy bar, near the district where the fires are breaking out :-

Dr E <heavily disguised :-)>, sitting drinking at the bar.

‘Say bartender...’

‘Yes Dr Enigma...er, I mean strange man I’ve never seen before?’

‘Just got in from out of town...any work going round here?’

‘Work?’

‘Yeah...you might say I’m in the ... insurance....business.’

‘Insurance eh?’

‘Right...seems to me this is kinda a dangerous town....all these FIRES breaking out....seems mebbe you need a good insurance man...’

‘Er....’

‘I just got in from NYC...you ever heard of Vandelay industries?’

‘Nope.’

‘Well you wouldn’t...that was one of my....insurance <nod, wink, passing of dollar bills> jobs’

‘Right’

‘So...<nod, wink, passing of dollar bills>....you know of anyone who might need INSURANCE...against FIRE...???’

<Pause>

‘Wait here...I think I know a couple of guys who might be able to help, Mr....?’

‘Call me Vandelay...Art Vandelay’

Time passes, Dr E knocks back a couple of whiskies.

Two guys enter.

‘Mr Art?’

‘Er....that’s Mr Vandelay...Art Vandelay....’

‘We’re here on INSURANCE business...’

‘Insurance, right...’

‘Against....’

‘FIRE....’

‘Yeah....FIRE...INSURANCE...you wanna come with us, talk some business...about FIRE INSURANCE?’

Dr E finishes his drink....piece of cake....quick natter with these bums, names & addresses exchanged and we know everything we need to know....superpowers PAH who needs’em...?

10 metres down a twisty turny unlit alley, one of the guys thwacks Dr E REAL HARD across the knee with a crowbar!

The frail, STR 1, body of Dr Enigma crumples to the ground. Yet, though his body is weak his mind remains strong, and he unleashes his awesome telekinetic forces. He turns the crowbar on his attackers, and within one round, one lies unconscious and the other turns to flee...

Dr E tries to raise himself to his feet : ‘Foolish mortals, cower at the power of Dr EnigmMAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH.....’

He reaches for his mobile phone and dials...

‘Wheelchair Bob....it’s Dr Enigma...I think I need a medic....oh....and....do you possibly have a spare wheelchair I could borrow?’

....and passes out.

Bad day for Delivery Drivers

From Bob’s questioning of the man captured at the office building.

Ziegfrield paid them.

Delivery of more explosives later that evening. Car to be left at a drop off point

Bob decides to do a hit but since the rest of the team seem to be engaged elsewhere he allocates Alexia, Cassy and Bolt to the job. He puts Alexia in charge. He will supervise from headquarters.

Alexia and Co take an unmarked DP intelligence truck for the operation.

It is decided by Alexia and Cassy that the Bolt will take a position on the street pretending to be a Tramp while A & C observe from the van.

Bolt starts to wonder the streets dressed in old cloths looking in the rubbish bags.

A & C start to enjoy the warm, private and intimate environment of the truck.

One hour to go – It starts raining.

Half-hour to go- The Bolt asks if he can come in the truck. Told to do his DP duty and stay outside. A & C start to get friendly.

D Day - rain hammering down- Bolt looking like a drowned rat, now huddling in a doorway. A & C’s concentration starting to wander. NO CAR

12 minutes later. A car pulls up. Bolt feeling cold and maybe with the start of a sniffle gets ready for action. He starts to move towards the car feeling comforted by the thought that there were two observers in the Van to give him support. Much groaning from the van.

By time Bolt had fired off a few energy bolts, the observers in the van started realise action had started and they disengaged. Cassy steamed in and Alexia started to take photos and compose her story in her mind "How Cassy had stopped an arms delivery”.

Delivery guys taken prisoner and car impounded.

Operation : Jones the Butcher

When Truck phone from Jones the Butcher to tell Bob that he is away on an op, Bob distrusts him for some reason and gets a trace done on the call. He then arranges for an observer from another DP team to keep watch on the Trucks activities.

Truck starts preparing for the meet.

Pulls DP badge to get Jones (gentleman in his 50’s) in line.

Sets up cameras and video recording equipment.

Puts a getaway car behind the shop just in case he has to leave quickly.

All this is reported to Bob while he runs the other operation.

A car pulls up and the Truck cuts a deal with the 4 guys inside for the sale of the shop.

He arranges for payment tomorrow.

When he tells Jones about this he gets very agitated as he is worried about his lifehood business been sold. Truck tells him to just accept this, as it is DP business, just get into the backroom.

Jones in an extremely worried state of mind, seeing a future on the streets steals the videotapes and drives off in the getaway car. He lodges the tapes with his solicitor to publish the DP operation in the event of his death. He then goes home to spend time with his frail wife, also in her 50’s.

Truck now rubbing his hands with the joy of a successful operation thinking of promotion and the kudos he will gain. This will show that upstart squeak of a person Bob who is in charge.

Observer observes all and reports all.

Suddenly Truck notices lack of tape

Then lack of Jones

Then lack of getaway car

Much sobbing and holding of head in hands.

Observer observes all and reports all.

He then orders a Taxi to Jones house.

Observer follows and reports all.

Other Operation been wrapped up.

Jones House

Truck arrives and finds Jones in residence. He then ties up Jones and his wife (small frail grey haired lady in her 50’s, your mum).

Truck then explains to them that “it doesn’t matter if they keep the videos because I’ll film the gang again when I come back in the afternoon. So that means I can kill them both now anyway” Truck now smiles

“However if they co-operate and give me the videos I’ll consider allowing them to live”

Jones puts a call to the solicitor to get the tapes delivered. He arrives with the tapes and then leaves after been told that DP will close him down if there is any leak of this to anyone.

Truck unties the wife and then turns to Mr Jones. Mrs Jones take this opportunity to save her life and runs out of the front door before she is killed.

Truck sprints after her catching her on the front lawn. Drags her back into the house while she is screaming “don’t kill me please”.

Observer reports to Bob, saying “You won’t believe what he is doing now but…..”.

Much twitching of curtains and phone calls been made.

Bob decides things have gone far enough and he must put a stop to this before he loses all cred in front of the other team. He pulls together a team what he has available and is still mobile. Team Rescue consists of Bob, Alexia, Cassy and Bolt. Dr Enigma is in plaster with a smashed kneecap, displaced knee joint and torn ligaments. Frank Furlong is on walkabout. Team Rescue sets out with the observer guiding them in before going off duty. But will they get there in time before something else happens to the Truck?

Truck wondering what to do now, so he fall back on DP standard practice. He threatens Jones & his Wife to keep them quiet. He then hears sirens; surely they would not be coming here.

Four cars of armed cops pull up outside. They call for the killer in the house to come out and they will treat him mercifully.

The Truck does not know what to do.

If he surrenders, the cops will get him, beat him up and ‘find’ the evidence to convict him. DP won’t be too pleased either.

If he fights he will be killed.

The Truck jumps from one foot to the other while the cops unpack the grenade launchers from the cars. Another case of killer ‘killed while resisting arrest’, with the twist that he murdered the respectable old couple before firing on the police. He was a known member of defiance as well.

Rescue of the Truck or is it?

Just about when things were going to get hot Team Rescue now turn up.

Bob immediately pulls rank and tells the cops that DP would be taking over this operation and their services would no longer be required.

Orders them to pack up their stuff and leave the area.

Much grumbling from the cops about how the spandex wearers would not know a real operation if it turned round and bit them. Situation not helped by the Bolt issuing orders to the cops.

After the cops leave, Bob goes into the house and orders the Truck out with a bag over his head. The Truck is placed into the car. He will be taken to an interview room back at base so Bob can have a 'word' with him.

Alexia starts to write a story about how a Brave DP Sergeant brought in an insane madman.

Cassy and Bolt spread the story amongst the immediate neighbours.

Bob talks to the Jones. Tells them not to go to the shop for a few days while DP wrap up there. They can have DP's assurance the shop will not be sold.

Team Rescue then takes Truck back to base where he is secured in the interview room.
