#1: How to make Windows 95 emulate Windows 3.1
- Start / restart your Windows 95 PC.
- Hit the F8 key when the message "Loading Windows 95" appears.
- In Windows 95's startup menu, choose the "Command prompt only"
menu item.
- At the command prompt, type "cd \windows"
- Type "win" to start Windows 95.
- When the Windows 95 graphical screen finishes loading, click on "Start"
and click on "Shut down".
- When the phrase "You may now turn off your computer" appears,
type "mode co80" and press the Enter key. The command prompt
should now reappear and return you back to DOS!
Caution: do not turn off the computer, press the reset button, or press
Ctrl-Alt-Del between clicking "Shut down" and the time the "You
may now ..." message appears! Doing so may cause you to compromise
the stability of your system!
#2: How to install Windows 95 upgrade without installing
Windows 3.x first
- Run SETUP to install Win 95
- Put the Win 3.x disk 1 in the FDD (so it reads the S/N),
- Click on LOCATE when it looks for the Win 3.x directory and specify

You don't even have to the install DOS files after formatting the HDD
-only the CD drivers. Which means that the Win95 upgrade CD's are actually
full versions.
