Emmie

A young woman in her mid-twenties, Emmie's blue eyes peer out at you from a mass of strawberry blonde hair. Well, from the strands that have come loose from her once neat ponytail. She is wearing a green tunic and brown pants. Her black wherhide boots are above her pants, since the legs of said pants are tucked neatly into the them. She stands tall, at about 5'11", yet she's slender, almost stick thin.

Emmie is the daughter of two Benden riders. Elenore, the rider of Green Spriteth, and M'til, the rider of blue Saphhith. She grew up at Benden weyr, the oldest of a slew of siblings. Among them were Matrim and Elana. A tall girl, although not as tall as some of her siblings, she was often taken as being older than she really was, and led many of her friends on merry chases about the weyr. She got into a large amount of trouble, but always seems to know when to draw the line, and very rarely ever got caught at pulling anything untoward. She was free spirited and always smiling.

Her world changed dramatically when she was 13 and her father and his dragon died in a training excercise. She knew that if people had more experiance with treating dragons and their injuries, then perhaps Saphhith wouldn't have died, and her father wouldn't have taken his life. She talked Elenore, a healer journeyman before she impressed, into taking on gathering as much information about dragonhealing as possible. Although Elenore was interested in such activities before, Emmie's eagerness pushed her more fully into her endeavors and the result was the start of a new program through the Healer Hall. From the day that her mother announced that the Healer Hall was starting a joint dragonhealing project with the weyr, all Emmie wanted to do was join the craft, and pursue that interest. From the time the program started, she convinced Elenore to start training her in that area, learning all she could.

Her plans were delayed when she was Searched for a clutch laying on Benden's sands. She really had no interest in Impressing, but was brought up to do honor unto the weyr and accepted her candidacy. She didn't impress and she happily got permission to travel to the Healer Hall and apply for an apprenticeship. By this time she was 16 turns old.

She kissed Elenore goodbye and waved to her younger siblings, hitching a ride with a nice, and good looking, blue rider. She arrived at Healer Hall and had absolutely no idea what was in store for her. She went to Master Pippa and gave her references. The Craftmaster was hesitant to take her on because of her age, almost 17, but agreed when she showed letters from the healer at Benden and from Elenore. She had to work hard in order to be accepted into the dragonhealing program for she had very little experiance with peoplehealing. She would often go days without sleeping, deciding that studying was more important. This got her into trouble on more than one occassion, and she actually had her studying restricted by the masters.

After a couple of turns in the craft, Emmie managed to get herself promoted to Senior Apprentice and got herself posted at High Reaches Weyr. She enjoyed her time there, feeling more free to express herself at the weyr. She also enjoyed the blue riders, the bronze riders, the green riders, the brown riders, and rumor has it, even a gold rider or two. She still studied intensely, much to the dissatisfaction of Master Mysara. Eventually, at age 23, she managed to get herself promoted again, the time to Journeyman. The promotion came with a price though, and Emmie was sent back to Healer Hall to teach dragonhealing basics to the apprentices.

Deciding that she wouldn't let the more traditional values of the hall hold her back, Emmie decided to fully enjoy her time at the hall, thinking that eventually she'd be posted to another weyr. She gained quite a reputation, and it wasn't helped by hanging about certain dubious bronze riders when they came to visit, but Emmie was happy, and that was all that mattered to her. She never really cared what others thought of her anyhow.

After a bit, Master Pippa decided that Emmie needed more rank, or something, and decided to promote her to Master. It was then declared that Emmie would stay on at the hall and head the dragonhealing program there. She continued to enjoy herself, despite having more duties and, ick, responsiblities. After a turn or so, and she can't tell you why, the masters voted her in as Craftmaster when Pippa retired.

She works hard at her job, somehow managing to get an hour or two of free time everyday to pursue her own interests, whether it be napping on a tree limb, or chasing a bronze rider or two. Her reputation, however, has effected her job, and she never got full respect from her fellow Craftmasters or the other Masters at Healer Hall.

Eventually, the strain got to be too much for Emmie. Her easy-going attitude just couldn't take the day to day stress of being CraftMaster. She handed over the position to an old friend who was, at the time, serving as MasterHealer at Benden Weyr. Hopefully now she'll get the time she desperately needs to relax and not worry about who she is or how she behaves.
