| This tall, thin girl has brown hair and brown eyes. She stands at approximately 1 meter 91 centimeters (that's 6 foot 3 inches). Her pale skin makes her seem rather plain, but her eyes flash with the signs of a quick intelligence, brightening her face. She tries her best to maintain calmness in her face. Many times her face unexplainably softens. There is a gentleness to Elana, that was never there when she was younger. Elana looks to be about 20 turns old, but she acts far older than her age at times. She walks with a slight limp, that is exaggerated when she is upset, the after-effect of a rather bad broken leg. Elana's long, brown hair hangs down her back. The ends reaches down below her knees. On her shoulder, Elana is wearing a knot of black and yellowish gold rope. A green thread is woven through it, indicating she is a rider of a green dragon at Igen Weyr. The extra twist in the knot denotes her as the Weyrlingmaster. |
Elana was born in Benden Weyr to Elenore, green Spriteth's rider, and T'lan, bronze Coketh's rider. She grew up to be quite a troublemaker, having learned from the best, Emmie and M'trim. Unlike Emmie though, she never had the self control and didn't immediately learn the cunning not to get caught. She was more like M'trim that way. She spent a large amount of her time doing the more unsavory chores around Benden as her punishments.
She was eventually fostered to an assistant headwoman at the weyr, Kolana's mother. The woman was already strict in her ways, and wasn't able to tolerate Elana's behavior as it was. When T'lan left her for another woman, she became intolerable, at least in 12 turn old Elana's opinion. It didn't take long for one of Elana's pranks to go awry and for Elana to find herself quickly fostered to Karissa, a cook at High Reaches Weyr.
Telgar Weyr was going to be re-opened after losing many of their dragons and riders to a plague and Karissa was to be the head cook there. Elana decided, rather than have to break down .. erm in .. a new fostermother, that she'd move to Telgar with Karissa. Besides, many of her favorite people were going to move there too, like Alazra and P'rsons. She packed her bags and her little blue firelizard, Schplotz, and hopped a dragon with Karissa to Telgar Weyr.
Not two days after getting to the new (yet old) weyr, some dragon visiting from High Reaches got it into her skull to Search her. The nerve! She had to repack all her bags and hop a dragon all the way back to High Reaches Hold.
Her candidacy was .. interesting to say the least. She managed to insult at least one craftmaster and paint green Miniath pink with purple polkadots. There was also an unsubstantiated rumour that she had something to do with the numbweed slathered out the outside of the lavatory doors. She didn't get caught as much as she used to though, so about half her pranks went unpunished. She did spend about 50% of her time in punishment still. She had to learn a bit more cunning yet.
When the day came for the eggs to hatch, Elana was doing her usual thing, getting into trouble exploring the inner caves of the weyr. She was looking for a good spot to hide her prank collection. When she heard the dragons humming, she rushed back towards the steps that lead to the weyr proper, and in her standard klutzy behavior, she tripped over her own feet (she had to grow into them) and broke her leg in several places. (OW!)
In the rush of the hatching, noone thought to look for her, and her cries for help weren't heard at all. She spent the entire hatching, and then some, on the floor in large amounts of pain. Eventually someone thought to look for her, but it was too late. She missed the hatching.
She was transported back to Telgar on a straight flight on a bronze dragon and she spent the next monthes being pampered and carried about, and falling down and breaking the bones again. That's probably why Elana's leg never properly healed and she walks about with a slight limp. It's usually only noticable when she's upset.
During this time she turned 14 and decided to figure out what she was going to do with her life. She tried helping Karissa, now fondly called 'Mom', in the kitchen, and to everyone's surprise she was actually quite good at cooking. She became an assistant cook and began to learn the tricks of the trade, excelling in cookies, bubblies, and anything else that was sweet and yummy.
It wasn't long that Alazra's gold dragon decided to have a clutch, and Elana was Searched for it. This time she was a good candidate, and didn't pull any pranks. At least none for which she got caught. Alazra's threat of not letting her Stand might have had something to do with that. She got blamed for a couple of pranks she didn't pull though, so for her own safety, she had to put the blame on someone else.
Anyways, this time when the eggs hatch, everyone made sure Elana was there and lo and behold she managed to impress Quiet Shimmering Green Seliniath. She also hooked up with a candidate named Setellan, who impressed a Bronze. Matrim was also there and he impressed a Bronze too.
She and Seliniath took a lot of time getting used to each other. They were total opposites in personality, but eventually they came to terms and graduated from the weyrling wings. Zeniobia decided that she and Miniath were ready to retire from being WeyrlingMaster and took Elana on as an assistant. A few clutches and stunned weyrlings later, Elana took on the job as WeyrlingMaster for Telgar Weyr.
It was about this time that she and S'tellan had a really big fight and when he told her to go Between, she and Seliniath did, to the ice lake. She scared alot of people doing that too. M'trim took the time to beat Set, who had just become the new WeyrLeader, to a pulp and then took off after her. Elana's fury set off a reaction in Seliniath, who wasn't able to handle it, and she ended up overloading herself. It took a bit to recover, but when she did, she vowed never to take up with a man again. It was too dangerous.
Several turns passed and Elana had a lovely little girl, Jolana, as the result of a mating flight. And then some more turns passed and she sent Jolana off to Igen Weyr to be fostered, visiting her often, still having her job as WeyrlingMaster to contend with over free time. Eventually, M'trim became WeyrLeader and took a weyrmate Melaine. They had some kids, but Elana had trouble getting along with Melaine, and no longer felt comfortable with her big brother.
About that time Syrelan showed up in the weyr. Elana felt herself attracted to the young man, even though she didn't want to be. It took a little cohersion on Syrelan's part, but eventually Elana agreed to explore the relationship as more than just friends.
When Elana took ill, she was sent to Igen Weyr to recover in the warmer climate, and she convinced Syrelan to come with her. She happily took the time off and got to know her daughter a little better. Plus she got a really nice tan. While she was gone, Alazra's dragon clutched again, and M'trim decided to promote a new WeyrlingMaster, effectively leaving Elana without a job. The new WeyrlingMaster took on all new assistants, which left Elana's assistants without a job. Elana was hurt by what she sensed as a betrayal by her brother and considered her options.
At the same time the WeyrlingMaster at Igen Weyr was seriously injured in a training excersise and his assistants all resigned. K'tral asked a then proddy Elana (bad move) to take over the position. After throwing a few insults his way, she said she'd think about it. Once Seliniath had flown, and Elana had spoken to Syrelan, she went to apologize to the WeyrLeader and found that the offer was still open, so she took it. She then went to Telgar Weyr and got Rissa and Ph'ebe transferred over as her assistants. She took on J'peg, who was already at Igen, as an assistant as well.
The eggs hatched, and Elana went full force into her job as WeyrlingMaster. Unfortunately, it burned her out. Between that and her desire to see more of her family, she decided that it was time to give up the position of WeyrlingMaster, a job she's had in once capacity or another almost since she and Seliniath graduated from Weyrlinghood. Currently she's helping out as an Assistant Weyrlingmaster, but hopes to eventually ease out of the role completely and allow the new WeyrlingMaster a chance to do things his or her way without her interferance.
