So, you want to hear about my version of the goth and vampyre scene, do you? Well, OK, but remember, you all asked for this.
I consider myself a goth. There are many different types of goths worldwide, in fact, someone has created a list of them on the web, complete with the details of all the different types. I'll have to see if I can't find that link again so I can post it here. What attracts me to the goth scene isn't one aspect in particular. I feel more comfortable in black, especially velvet, and..well, it's rather hard to explain, actually. I guess the easiest way to say it is that goth is something I feel, not just something I do. I have a picture of me goth, but it's not a very good one...and not my typical goth-wear. There's a long story behind that picture...and if anyone REALLY wants to hear it (it's not that interesting either), you can email me.
Anyway...if you came here looking for my definition of what goth really is, I'm going to have to disappoint you. Like I said before, there are so many different goths worldwide, and I would feel like I was stereotyping if I decided to say here what I think goth is. If you want to know anything specific, again, feel free to email me. :)
And on to vampyres. Vampyres hold at least as much fascination for me as do dragons, which is a tremendous lot, as anyone that knows me can tell you. My favorites are found in the Anne Rice series, but I'm also fond of Bram Stoker's Dracula. My goal at this moment is to have all of the Anne Rice Vampire novels in hardcover. So far I've got Queen of the Damned, Memnoch the Devil, Pandora, and The Vampire Armand. I just got Armand recently, and I've already read it twice. It's definitely worth the $20 I spent to get it in hardcover, and I highly recommend it to any Anne Rice fan. I can't wait to see who she decides to do next! :) My guess is possibly Santino, or a story of Marius in greater detail than was found in Pandora. But there are many others she's brought in through other stories, and I'm sure Lestat's adventures are far from over. So I suppose I'll just have to be patient. :)
My love for vampyres is probably closely linked to my love for gothness and dragons, and things of the dark in general. One might wonder where this fascination came from, considering my background, but unfortunately, I can't even answer that question. I've always had a love for the mythical, when I was younger it was unicorns and pegasii. Then a boy in my church youth group introduced me to MetallicA, and I was hooked on that. I'm guessing my fascination with darkness has always been in me, it was just waiting for me to discover it, and that introduction to MetallicA opened the door for that to happen.
I don't know if I could ever actually be a vampyre. I love garlic too much. :) All joking aside, though, there is a part of me that loves daylight, the sun, and the beach, just as there's the part that loves night, the moon, and the stars. I don't think I could give up the part that loves the day, even for immortality. Of course, it is easy for me to say this now, when the opportunity is not there. I might have a change of heart if the chance was ever given to me. :)
That's really all I can say about the darker side of my life at this point in time, I think. But visit again, I'm sure I'll add more in time. :)
In fact, here are two dragons I've adopted from {dixey} in honor of my dark side. *grin* The one on the left is Onyx, and his brother there on the right is Flame. Click either one of them to adopt a couple for yourself!
