Fantasy & Science Fiction Magazine
June 1997
Stories featured in this issue are:
- "Graffiti" by Robert Reed. A stunning story about a
small town which has a unique way of solving horrendous crimes. But
the story turns chilling at the end over the question of cause and
effect.
- "Rajmahal" by Kit Reed. Set in India, this story
shows how life in a village surrounding a ancient Indian palace
depends on who is doing the perceiving.
- "Bright, New Skies" by M. Shayne Bell shows a future
world where the ozone layer has vanished and many species of animals
and plants are fast disappearing or going blind. Into this world
wanders a biologist who could alter animals to withstand the
ultra-violet rays. The world portrayed is depressing, showing off one
of the worst possible scenarios of a world without protection.
- "The Pipes of Pan" by Brian Stableford describes what
is apparently an idyllic future, when people live a long time and
children don't have to grow up. But slowly, things are going wrong,
as we see through the eyes of a child of this future.
- "Jelly Bones" by Robin Aurelian is the story of an
extremely strange person who could have come out straight from
The X-Files; a shape-changer who can dissolve his bones and
fit through any crack! We are lead on a quest by him to discover his
past.
- "The Macklin Gift" by Pat McEwen is a disturbing
story about a family whose father and son has a strange power. At
first sight, you may think this power is wonderful (from a male angle)
but as the story shows, this is one power you wish you did not
have.
- "Why I Never Went Steady with Heather Moon" by Ron
Goulart is a funny story about a boy who, first, dates a women whom
another magician is after, and then a witch whose family warns him of
trouble ahead.
