| Information on 'The Cat Returns' |
The Cat Returns is a very entertaining Japanese animated feature. It has a simple storyline, a few important characters (mostly cats) and a series of entertaining jokes and situations that recall the best of non-violent cartoons. Not a single drop of blood is spilled despite the fighting, explosions and large number of clawed cats in the movie.
The movie involved a girl named Haru who pines for a better life; she is always late for school and she cannot catch the eye of a boy she is interested in. But all that changes when she rescues a cat carrying a present. The cat suddenly stands, bows to her and thanks her for saving his life.
Things get even stranger when she is visited by the king of cats and invited to the cat kingdom. Via a series of mis-understandings over the visit, she discovers that she is to be whisked there to be married to the prince of cats.
Her only hope, a ghostly voice whispers to her, is to get the help of a cat Baron. With the aid of a perpetually hungry fat cat, the Baron prepares to mount a rescue.
The straighforward storyline aims the story at kids. Yet, the movie is entertaining enough for adults to enjoy. You may well find yourself laughing out loud at the antics of the Baron as he races to get Haru back to the human world before it is too late for her.
If you are looking for a way to entertain yourself (or your kids) for ninety minutes or so, watching The Cat Returns is a good choice, even if you don't understand Japanese as the subtitles help you understand the conversation and appear to be faithful to the original language.
