"The Queen in the Hill"
[permanent link].
A thoughtful story about a gardener who tends the garden of future
group of men who are 'immortals' although the gardener himself is not.
He is noticed one day by an immortal while protecting some children,
and is given a bride many years later. But as he finds out, the
immortals have become much removed from 'normal' humanity and their
purposes may not be in accord with what he or his bride wish to do.
