"Bad Science + Breast Cancer (non-fiction)"
[permanent link].
An eye-opening article about what happens when an apparent cure for a
disease is accepted without real proof that it works. In this case,
the disease is breast cancer and the cure was a massive dose of
chemotheraphy to kill the cancer cells; unfortunately, this also
destroys the bone marrow. The chemotheraphy was followed by a bone
marrow transplant to restore the marrow. The problem was inadequate
evidence that the procedure can save more breast cancer patients
compared to other procedures.
