"Sandkings" [permanent link]. A wonderful and chilling story about a man who likes exotic pets so much that he decides to get four 'sandkings'. Sandkings are small, hive-like creatures with a in-mobile queen that can fight intricate battles for food when treated properly. But this man is only interested in getting his sandkings to fight viciously; perhaps too viciously when they get loose from their tank.
