An interesting start to an interesting story. Deep in a mine in
Canada, an experimental heavy water container used to detect neutrinos
is suddenly destroyed. The source was found to be a man; but a very
different kind of man.

"Hominids (Part 2 of 4)"

In this part of the interesting story, it becomes apparent that the
mysterious stranger who suddenly appeared in a mine is not what he
seems. He is a Neanderthal but one not from the past; further
investigations reveal that he is from the present but from an
alternate universe where Neanderthals are the dominant species, not
Man. And back in his own universe, his partner, who was conducting an
experiment in quantum computing, is now accused of murder and may well
lose unless he can figure out what has happened.

In this part of the interesting story, Ponter, the Neanderthal from an
alternate Earth, finds out more about our Earth and has begun to
resign himself to living among humans for the rest of his life, cut
off from his own world. Meanwhile, back on Ponter's Earth, his
partner Adikor, is struggling to explain what happened to Ponter and
defend himself against the accusation that he had murdered Ponter. In
the end, he comes up with a plan to try to get Ponter back. But will
he have the chance to try it?

In the concluding part of the story, Ponter, the Neanderthal from an
alternate Earth, is on the verge of accepting his new life on our
Earth. But his Neanderthal partner, having successfully eluded the
watching authorities, rushes to duplicate the experiment that caused
Ponter's disappearance from his world, hoping to locate Ponter and
prove his innocence. Will life ever be the same for all involved?
