There's always a bustle of activity here. Fragrant dishes are constantly in prepartion for mealtimes: currently for the evening meal. Drudges are always present, either cleaning under Pierron's watchful eye, or helping fetch and carry. A myriad of glowbaskets and many ever-lit hearths make the cavern warm and inviting despite its size. The scents of cooking meats, baking breads and pastries, and the pungent aroma of spices hang mouthwateringly in the air. It is little wonder that those seeking to relax nearly always find their way here to do it. Dark summer blooms of vivid hue decorate the tables. A short tunnel jaunts northward out to the bowl and the merry sounds of cooking, chores, and laughter echo from the kitchen at the southeast end of the cavern near the easterly passage to the rest of the lower caverns. Within the lower caverns is an entrance to the infirmary weyr to care for injured dragons and riders. Contents: PLAYERS: Pierron Greylin Laidan Macami Schmitt OTHER: Dragonpoker Table Obvious Exits: Inner Caverns Kitchen Bowl Laidan enters the Living Cavern with a handful of supplies to restock the table. "'licious," Schmitt answers, mouth full. She grins and reaches over to touch Cami's hair softly. "Yours?" She's focused on baklava and weyrmate and doesn't notice Laidan. Laidan drops them off, momentarily fussing with Peirron over their placement, then looks up and spots her Aunt. "Aunt Schmitt!" Macami nudges her weyrmate though, as she spies Laidan who looks awfully familiar to her. "Haven't had mine yet, too busy watching you. Say, isn't that...niece, cousin, whatever?" She bursts out laughing at the enthusiastic greeting. "Auntie Schmitt..." She snickers. Laidan sticks her tongue out at Macami, as saucily as she ever did to her mother. "You didn't recognize me?" Schmitt pokes Cami in the side with a grin, "Hey, Laidan!" She looks closer, "Whatever is that knot!" Laidan brushes off some crumbs from the food she was carrying. "I got Searched." She grins. Macami grins at Laidan. "Well, I hardly know you, you didn't stay at Igen very long, did you? I'm just amused you actually call her aunt." She ruffles Schmitt's hair, the peers at Laidan's knot. "Oh, congratulations! For Daelyth's and Nraith's clutch? Nice." Schmitt bobs her head in a quick nod, "Best of luck. I'll do my best to come and watch," she says. "And when was this, who searched you?" Laidan bounces and thinks a bit.. "A couple of sevendays ago.. Alerith had Merielan line us up for him to sniff." Macami seems pleased about something and then quickly whispers something to her weyrmate. She mutters to Schmitt, "... family wasn't... Or is it..." Her smile is gentle. Greylin watches the other three for a moment, giving Laidan a brief nod. When she's finished with her meal, she disposes of her dises and heads back to chores. Greylin walks towards the inner cavern. Greylin has left. Schmitt sticks her tongue out at her weyrmate with a grin. "Laidan's different," she says. "Hmm.. how about the chores, niece?" GAME: Saving to disk. Will resume shortly. GAME: Save complete. Resuming. Macami tugs at a strand of Schmitt's hair with a grin and then looks at the person who's so different, rather curiously. For all that she's her weyrmate's niece, she hardly knows her. Her scrutiny would probably unnerve other people as she looks at Laidan from head to toe. Laidan is a different sort. She straightens up a bit under scrutiny, so that she's at her most proper for it. She definitely takes after her aunt in at least one way- when she stands up straight, she's very tall, an still has several years to keep growing. Laidan throws a grin Schmitt's way. "They're alright.. nothing worse than growing up around here, anyway." Well, it was her long limbs, that made Macami take an interest in Schmitt, so Laidan's height gets an approving nod. "You don't mind the chores? You must be a good candidate then. I got punishment duties back then. How do you get along with the other candidates? How many eggs are there anyway?" Schmitt adds, nibbling her baklava, "We should go look at them before we leave. Then you can count them for yourself if Laidan doesn't know.." Laidan shrugs. "I've never had to beat up rocks before, but most of the rest of it I've been roped into some time or another while living here. There are 37 eggs, and I've heard that there actually is a gold." Macami lightly elbows Schmitt, then nods to Laidan with a smile. "How exciting. Did they let you touch the eggs yet?" She sighs. "Brings back old memories. I stood for Daelyth's first Igen clutch back then. Well, was not meant to happen." She shrugs. Laidan chuckles. "They're just now letting us onto the sands.. so I haven't gone just yet." Schmitt yelps and puts on a much exaggerated expression of hurt. "Hey, what was that for?" She sniffs loudly. "So, a gold. Excitement." She doesn't sound terribly excited. Macami turns towards her weyrmate and coos to her, never mind that they're not at home where people are used to their mushy displays. "I'm so sorry, dearheart, did not mean to hurt you. Just a light nudge because I did not want to go count eggs, you see." She tries to calm down her bluerider with a kiss, that tastes of baklava, and then turns back to Laidan. "Well, some people like egg touchings, some don't. I was terrified both times." Laidan grins. "Well, I used to sneak peeks all the time.." she glances around quickly to make sure there aren't any in-charge-type people here to hear her incriminate herself. "You know, sneak back and peek through the cracks, a whole lot closer than just looking down from the galleries." Schmitt chuckles, "Oh, aye. That's the most fun." She grins at Cami, "Not that -I- would ever do such a thing, O Former Assistant Weyrlingmaster." Macami sits straight and gives Schmitt a look of mock importance. "And Candidate Coordinator twice, never forget that. And a Wingleader now. You better be a good girl, or you will have to face dire consequences." She then laughs and grins at Laidan. "Most of the people do that. Most of the candidates anyway. And the leaders usually know." Schmitt wiggles her eyebrows at Macami, "Hmmmmm." And grins innocently at Laidan. Laidan nods. "Well, I don't have to just sneak, this time, since I am a Candidate.. I can go and see them -really- close up on the egg touchings." Macami nods. "Nimiriel used to be very good about egg touchings, she really tried to calm me down back down. I hope it will be a very special occasion for you. We should try to come to the hatching," she says to her weyrmate. Schmitt reminds, "I already said that, dear.." She rolls her eyes, finishes her baklava and smiles blissfully at her weyrmate, leaning close to murmur, "Love you anyway." Laidan bounces a bit again, waiting politely enough for Schmitt and Macami to get the mushiness out. Kyris has connected. Tough luck for Laidan, as Macami soaks up the mushiness happily. "Love you too," she whispers to Schmitt, kisses her once again and then chuckles. "See, in your presence I forget everything." Kyris walks towards the inner cavern. Kyris has left. Schmitt grins and laughs softly. "Then it's a good thing I'm not in your wing, hmm?" Laidan giggles. Macami laughs and nods. "That's probably the reason they put you in Sirocco back then anyway. Too bad, that you have to fly in such a wing." She winks. Schmitt says peaceably, "It's a fine wing. I'm in it." Laidan grins. "-Have- you been to see the eggs?" Macami points to Schmitt's plate. "There's baklava. You don't think your aunt is doing anything as long as she has baklava, do you?" She smiles at Schmitt. "They're lucky to have you. Don't know about Kazeth though." Schmitt finished her own baklava quite a bit back, actually - what's in front of her now is Macami's now half-eaten baklava. "Kazeth is a wonderful dragon." Laidan hmms, looking over the food she delivered.. "I know there're some bubblies in this tray somewhere.." She snags a couple of them, having been reminded that food is present, she finds herself hungry. Laidan arches an eyebrow at her aunt. "Kazeth's a grumpy dragon." Macami cheers at Laidan. "Exactly! That's what he is. And he's been trying to convince your aunt that she has to leave me, for as long as I can remember. Tivuketh is so much nicer." Reassuringly she says to Schmitt "But you are wonderful, love." "Kazeth is not," Schmitt says airily. "He.. has personality, that's all." Macami smiles cheerfully at her weyrmate, then looks at Laidan so that Schmitt can't see her face and rolls her eyes. Laidan stifles a giggle. Schmitt adds, "-And- he likes pie. There's nothing wrong him being.. mm.. strongly opinionated." Laidan munches on a bubbly briefly to keep the giggles away. "Did you ever make the really, really big pie for him, Macami?" Macami shakes her head. "That's Mirala's job. I can't bake. That's probably the reason why he hates me." She looks from Laidan to Schmitt. "Do you think making a pie for him would help?" Laidan blinks.. "Ooops... got you confused with her, I guess." She blushes. Schmitt grins. "Kazeth would appreciate that," she says, eyes flicking towards the bowl - "Aye, he says Mirala and Macami should get themselves mixed up too." Well, that certainly is a blow to her good opinion of Laidan, as Macami stares at her. "Confused me with Mirala?!" There's a certain edge to her voice, and she gnashes her teeth. "Well, I'm going to ask Dendra if she can provide a recipe for pie. If I have to bake for him to make him stop being mean to Tivu and mean, then I will." Schmitt sighs and says, "I don't think a pie would help anything, dear, and I'm sure Laidan didn't mean anything by it." Tarlo has connected. Tarlo walks in, throwing an apologetic look to those she'd left abruptly earlier. Macami slowly nods. "I know. Given her short stay with us, there's no wonder she did confuse us." She smiles weakly. "Should you not Impress, what I certainly don't hope, you should visit your aunt again." She turns to Schmitt. "So it's hopeless, I can't do anything to make him like me?" Laidan grins. "Well, I did visit to learn something about bakercraft, maybe.. and you were there, so I just got you confused with baking. I think, if I don't Impress, I'll try the woodcrafthall and see if they'll take me." Tarlo gives everyone a jaunty wave, and heads deeper into the caverns. Tarlo walks towards the inner cavern. Tarlo has left. Macami arches her brows. "Whatever would make you consider working wood? Shards, I'm far too clumsy for something like that. But I have a gorgeous statue of Tivu that my Mykkie did for me. Which reminds me, is he around somewhere?" "Just because you're clumsy doesn't mean she is," Schmitt says and grins. Laidan reaches into a couple of pockets, looking for something.. she produces a small carving of a firelizard preening. "Well, I tried a couple of things.." Macami holds out her hand for the carving and smiles. "Not bad, not bad at all. I remember the days, when Myk was standing for Cyrath's and Tivu's clutch. Every morning around dawn we sat in the stands together and he carved things. I'm sure he could give you some advice, he's really good at it." Laidan hands Macami the carving and frowns a bit as she memorizes the name. Macami touches the carving carefully and nods approvingly. At Laidan's frown she says. "Mykkie. My honorary younger brother. Though I guess no one calls him Mykkie anymore. M'kon, Nioth's rider." Macami turns to Schmitt. "Would you like to see?" "Of course," Schmitt says, dusting her hands off and getting rid of those baklava crumbs. Laidan ohs.. "I've heard of him, but not for carving things." Macami smiles. "I can bring the statue of Tivu next time. It's an amazing work of art. You can almost see him guard the eggs from his stance." Laidan grins. "I'd like to see that." "It's a lovely statue," Schmitt says and grins. "Not as nice as my Kazeth carving though, with Doom." Laidan glances back at the table and sighs.. "My job's restocking, today.. looks like the Klah's almost out. See you two again soon, maybe?" Schmitt nods, "At the hatching if not before. Don't let them work you too hard." Macami smiles and nods to Laidan. "Clear skies, and we'll come again. The baklava, you know." She grins. Laidan grins. "I'll bet mom's told you about how hard I work when I don't want to." She scampers out towards the kitchen, with a wave.
