1999's New Years Eve was a strange one with many dire predictions. While we didn't expect the collapse of civilization as we know it, it was still best to be prepared.
First of all, the necesities of food and water had to be accounted for. Food we had in plenty, as well as propane and stoves to cook it on. For water, we filled up about twenty or so empty gallon jugs a couple of days ahead of time and stored them in the basement.
The next questions were light and heat. We made sure our hurricane lamp was filled, and that our flashlights and candles were in easily accessible areas. With these and plenty of blankets and warm clothes, we were in excellent shape.
Of course, we had a full medical kit in an easily accessible spot. We also had non-electric versions of necesary items like can-openers.
