Sonny Crockett is one of the most decorated officers in the Miami Police Department, with three medals awarded for conduct above and beyond the call of duty. In 1981, Crockett was promoted to the Miami Vice division, where he became the first undercover law enforcement official to bring down Miami crime boss Gencarlo Corman. This remained constant until 1987, when two incidents tarnished his career. In late May of that year, Crockett was suspended for the shooting of a six year old boy. He was found innocent, the case was ruled as an accident. This was colloborated by his partner, Ricardo Tubbs. The following June he was investigated by Internal Affairs for a second time. During a routine undercover assignment, Crockett was injured in the line of duty. With a severe case of amnesia, Crockett thought he was his alter-ego, Sonny Burnett. In the process, he became a wanted fugitive of justice. After a short time his memory returned. Crockett's case was closed by I.A. and never mentioned again. In 1988, Crockett left the Miami Vice division, as well as the department. He now resides in his hometown of Mobile, Alabama, where he works as a private investigator.
