IThe Ominous Cavern

The Ominous Cavern is just minutes away from the palace of His Grudliness in Great Grud City.  The mysterious cavern is a rite of passage for all Gruds.  The cavern contains a temporal anomaly which alters perception of time.  Gruds who venture into the cavern only remain inside physically for  ½ of a day (approximately 20 earth hours).  However, to the mental perception of the Grud entering the cavern, the time spent within is approximately 10,000 years.  For a Grud, this is but a minor discomfort, and Gruds emerge much wiser for their experience.  His First Grudliness, Sir A. Percival Simian Grudd of Grud, made seven trips into the Ominous Cavern.

While the Cavern is a routine rite of passage for Gruds, for other, less evolved life forms (i.e. Humans), the Cavern is an ultimate form of torture and terror.  Human slaves who do not slave well in the ore mines are routinely cast into the Ominous Cavern, some more than once.  (Hint to future Human Slaves:  slave well and obey your new masters.)
