Chapter III

"Now just let me get this straight, you're telling me that you guys had an alien transported here?"
"Well, actually, it sort of just got here." The monk answered.
"What!? Come on, make sense man!"
"A few weeks ago a space ship landed here. It was some kind of deep space exploration vessel, returning from the unknown parts of space."
"The Raven!?" The general asked stunned.
"Yes, I believe the ship was called 'the Raven'. Anyway, they landed here because one of their crew was very sick and they needed our help because we were the closest colony. So we helped the man...until something bursted through his chest and he was killed. First we didn't know what it was. It was some kind of little creature, we didn't see it very long because it ran away immediately. Later we realized, it must have been one of those aliens we keep hearing about. After the other members of the exploration crew had gone, we started thinking and asked the Lord for answers."
"But the Raven never got back to earth! They say it exploded somewhere near Mars." The general said.
"One of those aliens must have gotten on board before they left here." Bishop said.
"You mean, the alien got back on the ship and is no longer here?" Carmen asked.
"It's a possibility." Bishop said.
"No it's not. People have been disappearing here, even after the exploration ship left. Some monks have also said that they saw it a few times, sneaking around, or hunting on others. This place is so huge, you can never be sure."
"Well, then what the hell happened to that damn ship? Ships don't simply explode?" The general said.
"Guess that leaves only one option." Bishop said with a grey face.
"What?" The general asked.
"The alien from 'the Raven', the one that bursted out of the man's chest...it was a queen."
"A what?" Carmen asked.
"A queen, an egg layer. That's the way these creatures form civilizations. The first to be born is a queen, the queen lays eggs. The eggs hatch and a spider-like creature comes out. The spider-like creature finds a host body to spray it's seeds in. A human in this case."

David awoke. He was alive? Where was the creature? He looked around. There it was, laying on the ground beside him. It looked dead. David got on his feet. Once more he looked at the creature. It was definitely dead! A smile came on his face. God had saved him! He had remained faithful until the last second and his reward was life! Suddenly he felt something moving in his chest. The next thing he knew was that he was laying on the ground and couldn't stop coughing. He felt like something was mixing up his lungs from the inside. Something was coming up. Blood, blood was streaming out of his mouth. Something was in him! Now it wanted out...through his chest plate. He automatically turned over, now lying on his back. He cried out in pain when suddenly he saw something coming out of his chest. What was it!? It was a mouth. A little mouth, chewing it's way out. Now the arms were also coming out of the agonizing hole of pain in his chest. Suddenly, in one quick move, the creature was out all the way, looking at David's dying face as it slowly ran out of life and fell back on the ground. The creature ran away.

"When the seeds are in the host body, they grow into a baby-alien. After a few hours the baby bursts through the chest plate of the host, killing it in the progress. When the creature is out, it grows, it's an adult within only a few hours." Bishop said.
"Now brother, it's very important you tell us how many monks are missing." The general said.
"Well, I don't know, there are five monks who have been missing for two days and some others also haven't shoved up for the morning prayer...but like I said, this place is huge. It takes time to know if someone is really missing, we also have private times, you know."
"So why didn't you send the outside world a message that there was an alien here, pal?" Johner asked, glaring down at the man with a threatening look in his eyes.
"Johner, we already know that, remember? It's the reason Nathan gave us back in the ship. Now come on, we've wasted enough time."
"Brother, you've been very helpfull." The general said and they walked back to the main gate.
"Ok Biship, what do you think? Is there a queen here?" The general asked.
"It sure looks like it."
"Ok, I say we go back to the ship and get the fuck out of here, if these guys here want to die with these fuckers, that's their problem. Let's go!" Morse shouted.
"Right!" Johner said.
"Yea, lets just go now, dad. I mean, we came here to get a blood sample of one alien. That we could have managed...but this..." Carmen said.
"Shut the fuck up, Carmen, I didn't raise you like this! We came here to do a job, and we will. We stay here! Now if there's a queen here...I want her! A queen would be even more interesting to own. The great alien brain! Oh yeah...we need that queen."
"You're a fucking psycho, man." Johner said.
"Most psychos go down in history mister, mostly psychos. Now lets see if we can find some aliens." The general said while pulling his gun and loading it.
They moved down the hallways, checking every room. The hallways were dark, the rooms were sober and empty. The artificial candles shed pale light. There was no one. No monks, no aliens, just them. With every room they opened there was a tention. Their guns laying in their hands as if they were a part of their bodys. They all had two guns, one in each hand. They had been walking for hours, not seeing a single person or alien.
"That asshole was right, this place is huge." Johner said.
"Yeah, and where the hell are the people? You think it's usual not to see a single person for tree hours in tis place?" Morse asked.
"Wait, this hallway leads to a bigger room." Bishop said.
They walked down the hallway and entered a huge room. The ceiling was at least twenty five meters high and filled with paintings. The room was filled with holy crosses, but right in front of them was the biggest cross any of them had ever seen. It was made out of stone and it almost reached until the ceiling.
"What the hell!" Johner said stunned.
"It's beautiful!" Morse said.
"I don't get it, why build a holy cross so big?" Carmen asked.
"Why not?" A voice coming from behind asked. They all turned around as fast as they could, pointing their weapons at the source of the voice. A figure stood in the dark, as mysterious as sudden. It came closer. Moving in a calm, disciplined way.
"It's me." The figure said. They all noticed the echo in the room.
"Nathan?" Bishop asked.
"Yes, it's me."
"What the hell are you doing here, man!" The general asked.
"I followed you."
"Why?"
"We nearly blew you away, man." Johner added.
"I followed you to see to that you don't ruin things for us."
"Who's us?"
"You, me, humanity...God's first child."
Johner walked towards Nathan. "Look, I told you, buddy. I don't like bullshit." Johner said while putting his guns in form of Nathan's eyes. One gun on each eye.
"Now, you want to see God' slight?...You just keep staring in these two holes, pops."
Nathan didn't look int the guns. Instead he stared Johner right in the eyes.
"Hey, Johner. Cut that shit out, will ya!" The general shouted.
Johner slowly put the guns down.
"Maybe next time, asshole." Johner said, as he wlaked back to the others.
"So Nathan, tell me, why build a cross this big?" Carmen asked.
"This isn't just a cross, it's a hollow cross. There's a big room in it. This cross is in the exact center of this cathedral."
"You mean, there's a complete room in the cross?"
"Yes, every one of us monks only goes inside once in his life. It's the heart of the cathedral. Entering this room means that you are ready to spend the rest of your life in this cathedral."
"Well, we'll have to check it out." The general said.
"No! You musn't! It's not allowed!" Nathan said.
"Hey, pops, does it look like we give a fuck?" Johner asked aggressively. They walked towards the cross.
"No wait!...there were aliens sighted just a few hundred meters to the south, go now, you can still catch them!"
The group turned around.
"What?!" The general asked stunned.
"No really, go. Hurry!" Nathan desperately cried out.
"I think the little bastard is trying to lead us away from the holy cross." Johner said.
"No, why would he do that? But why didn't you tell us this in the first place, brother?" The general said.
"Well...I was going to, but you started talking about the cross and all..." Nathan lied.
"Ok people, looks like we have no time to waste. Lets move out!"
The group ran off. Nathan was alone. They ran trough the hallways, constantly ready to shoot at any movement.
"Keep looking at the ceiling, these fuckers come from above." Morse said.
"Hell, these assholes can come from anywhere, man." Johner said.
"Shut up! Keep focused. Ok, let's slow down, I don't like this place." The general said.
They stood in a narrow dark hall.
"Ah fuck, man, this hall is even darker than the others. Why the fuck did we stop here?" Johner said.
"Because we couldn't see what we were running into."
There was a sound, a sound of wind.
"What the fuck was that?!" Carmen shouted.
The last candle in the hall went out. It was dark. They leaned toward eachother, to be sure they were all still there.
"I really don't like this shit, man." Morse whispered.
"Hey, I just heard something move." Carmen said.
"Yeah, that was my foot." Bishop said.
"Come on, general, this is bullshit. We can't see Jack shit. So what now?" Johner asked quietly.
"Bishop, can these things see in the dark?"
"How am I suposed to know that?"
The general was shaking. Morse, whos back was pressed against the general's said: "Hey guys, he's loosing it over here. I think we'd better think of something fast."
"O...o...ok, let's just move. Let's...let's move out people." The general said.
"Sounds like ullshit to me." Johner hissed.
"Ok, ladies and gentlemen, let's make some light." Johner shouted while firing his guns.
The others followed his example and the flashes of light gave them a pretty good idea of what was in the hall...nothing. WIthin this raging show of light and sound they walked to a place where there were burning candles.

Nathan had been standing in front of the cross. Just thinking. Just staring. Now he had a chance. A chance to see if his feelings were right. He walked toward the cross. He now stood before the door in the back of the cross. His hand ready to open it. Why was he drawn here? Was this really going to be it? Would the pain really stop here? The pain of being human. And if they were in there...what would they do with him? What would they do with him if he obviously volunteered, volunteered to become...Nathan opened the door. His eyes felt as if they were frozen. Frozen of terror. The rage, the hate, the chaos, it was all there. All within the beast in front of him. It was huge, at least nine foot tall. There was a constant slime moving around it's black skin. It's tail moved chaotically as it looked upon him. It's mouth opened and with a hissing sound it's tounge came out. Within the tounge there was another mouth. Not a mouth to eat with, but purely to kill with. The creature didn't attack, it just looked at him. It's pure black eyes didn't show off easily agains the black skin. But Nathan could see them...even if he couldn't see them.
"Why was I drawn here?...How did I know you were here?" Nathan finally asked.
Was he going crazy? Was he simply going to die now? This creature before him wasn't just an animal. This had to be the queen. Suddenly he felt slime dripping on his shoulder. Now he heard it...now he knew. He didn't even have to look back. There was an other alien standing behind him. So they were just going to kill him. How foolish...how terrible. This meant they were not interested in learning more about their prey. If they didn't learn, they would never be able to wipe out the entire human race. He heard the mouth of the alien behind him open. He closed his eyes waiting for the creature's tounge to flash out of it's mouth, only to burst trough his scull a few moments later. Would he feel pain?
