Chapter IV
"My God, man. You really fucking lost it back there." Morse said with a grin on his face.
"Shut up!" The general shouted wiping thw sweat of his face.
"Yeah man, you're nothing if it comes down to it." Johner said.
"Hey! Why don't you two assholes give my father a break. You do't know what he did on Mars." Carmen said.
"Yeah, but that was humans killing humans. This is the real thing, babe." Johner said.
"Right. This is real combat. Not war with diplomacy and all that shit, here it's us agains them. It's that simple. And me and Johner over there knows what it's like." Morse added.
"Well said, man...well said" Johner said.
Morse and Jhner shook each others hand.
"Oh, fuck you." Carmen said walking away.
"Any time, any way, babe." Johner said with a nasty grin.
"That's a marine saying, right?" Bishop said remembering his time with Ripley.
"Yeah, I was with the marinew when I was about twenty." Johner said.
"There are no aliens here." The general said.
"What?" Carmen asked.
"Nathan, he lied."
"How do you mean?"
"He said, there was an alien attack to the south of the big cross. Here we are, south of the cross, and there is nothing. No bodies, no blood, no aliens."
"Fuck! I was right! He was trying to lead us away from the cross." Johner said.
"So where are the aliens?" Carmen asked.
"How the fuck should I know?"
"Yeah, but I bet the little worm Nathan knows more about it!" Johner said.
"Yeah...lets go back to the cross!"
Nathan opened his eyes. Nothing had happened. The alien was still there, behind him. Why did all of this take so long? Did they feel his fear? Did they feed on his fear? Something was going on, the queen looked past him, hissing at the alien behind him. For a moment nothing happened, then suddenly he felt the alien's head on his back. Was it attacking him? No...it was pushing him. The alien pushed him forward with it's head. Nathan realized that he was pushed towards the queen. Nathan was amazed how gentle the creature was, it wasn't painfully bumping into him, instead it just pushed him, slowly and constantly as if he was a guest that was to be treated with respect. He was now standing right before the queen. Suddenly he realized how cold and dark it was in here. There was complete silence, exept for the angry breathing of the queen. Her breathing in and out was the sound of pure rage. Yet she didn't look upset, she looked upon him with almost gentle eyes. how cold pure blackness be so gentle? The queen opened her arms. The alien behind him gave him one final push. Pushing him into the queen's arms. The alien moved away and the queen closed her arms around him. She was holding him, she was holding him like a baby. The slime of her body started moving around him as well. So she wasn't going to kill him. There was something more...something more important. Somehow she was changing him and yet, she was changing herself...
"Ok, people, we're almost there."
suddenly a monk stood before them.
"Nathan?"
"No, my name is Frank."
"Do you know where Nathan is?"
"He's inside."
"Inside?...Inside of what? The Cross?"
"Maybe, he's inside the barrier."
"The barrier?"
"Yes, these monsters, they've created a barrier, a wall of some sort of organic tissue."
"What!?"
"I'm telling you. They've created their zone within the cathedral. A few monks were inside this area when the monsters ceiled it off. We fear the worst."
"Where is this organic barrier?"
"Here, just around the corner."
They walked into the next hallway. The way to the left was ceiled off completely.
"What the hell is that?!" Johner said.
"It's the barrier, but the type of material it is made of...it seems familiar to me somehow. Oh yes, of course. I saw the same kind of walls on LB27 when I was there with Ripley and the marines." Bishop said.
"My god, they're really colonizing this place." The general said.
"So what do we do now?" Morse asked.
"We'll try to shoot trough it." The general said.
"But what if we get trough? There might be up to fifty of those things in there. I realize you never fought these creatures, but let me remind you they are very fst, and that they come from all around you. These creatrues are born to kill." Bishop said.
"And what do we have? Fucking water pistols? Now stop being suck a bunch of pussys and lets do this."
"Hey, you're the one that almost pissed in his pants back there, pal." Johner said.
"Shut up!"
They all faced the barrier and opened fire. A rain of bullets penetrated the organic tissue. No one could hear anything but the sound of firing guns. They all noticed that nothing was happening, but they didn't stop firing. The shooting turned into an act of frustration. Carmen was about to change magazine for the third time when she felt something wrapped around her leg. She looked down, but before she could see anything she was already falling and being dragged over the ground. Something was pulling her over the gound by her leg. Then it let her go. There she lay, ten meters behind the others who didn't notice her disappearance because they were too busy shooting. Laying on the ground she looked aound. It was a dragon! A dragon with a long tail. This beast had wrapped it's tail around her leg to pull her back so fast that the others didn't notice. Teh beast stood over her. Hissing at her in triumph, the movement of it's tail symbolizing it's pure rage. She was frozen. She couldn't stop staring at the pure form of horror that stood over her. Suddenly it's head moved down to her, it's mouth opened and a long sharp tounge fired out of it's mouth into her leg. As the mouth withing the tounge cut trough her flest she cried out in pain. Screaming she looked back to the others, they still didn't notice anything, nor did they hear her cries, the gunfire was too loud. Suddenly she realized that she also had a weapon. She pointed the gun in her hand at the alien and pulled the trigger.
"Click"...the gun was empty. The alien stopped eating from her leg and looked up on her. Once more the mouth opened, and she saw the tounge ready to fire out and burst into her head. Slowly she put the gun down. The alien moved closer, leaning over her, the slime out of it's mouth dripping all over her body. She looked into the alien's black eyes, it was now or never. As fast as she could, she pointed the gun in her other hand at the creature. With her last hope she squeezed the trigger.
"Bang" The dragon's head exploded. The creature's blood came on her left arm and left foot. Suddenly she remembered "acid for blood". In terror she watched it burn trough her. The pain, why would her body allow her to feel this much pain? Why didn't she just loose it? To pass out. Through her own screams she suddenly noticed that the gunfire had stopped. SHe looked back. She cried out. The others turned around.
"Carmen!" her father screamed.
She saw them running towards her, but then suddenly she noticed a strange look on their faces. Five meters from her they stopped. Nervously reloading their guns. They all looked in her direction, but no longer at her, but over her, behind her. She turned around to see what they were looking at. All hope disappeared from her eyes, then a feeling on uncontrolable panic seemed to climb up from her stomach.
Dragons, five of them, coming straight at her. She looked back at the others, at her father, the fear was like fire in his eyes. Again there was gunfire. The others slowly pulled back.
"Father!! Don't leave me!" She cried.
"I'm sorry...We...we'll be back!" He said, running off.
"Noooo!!" She cried with a dying voice.
Johner, Morse and Bishop stayed put. She laid back, putting her head down on the ground, looked up and watched the bullets fly over.
"Morse, watch it!! From above!!" Johner shouted.
Morse looked up and saw an alien advancing fast over the ceiling on his left. He pointed the gun in his left hand at it and fired a couple of round at it while continuint to fire in front of him with the gun in his right hand.
"We're not going to hold out much longer!" Bishop shouted through the gunfire.
"Hey Morse, don't you just love this kind of shit?!" Johner shouted with a grin on his scared face.
Morse gave him a quick nervous look, while blowing off an alien's tail to his left.
"We have to pull back, man." Morse said.
"What about her?" Bishop asked.
"Forget about her, man. She's long gone." Johner shouted.
"Yeah, and she's too far away, we need to pull back now!" Morse shouted, running after the general.
Bishop gave Johner a begging look.
"Johner, cover me."
"What?!"
"Just do it!" Bishop said while running towards Carmen. Suddeny Bishop noticed an alien coming right at him. Running, he aimed and squeezed the trigger. No ammo. He had already thrown his other un away. He was defenceless.
'Come on Johner.' he tought. He ran as fast as he could, too fast, he tripped and landed on the ground next to Carmen. The alien jumped onhim, ready to fire it's long tounge into the back of his neck. Why did he put his life in the hands of someone like Johner? The bastard had probably ran away. Yet there was the sound of gunfire. Was Johner such a bad shot? The gunfire stopped, then it started again. Bishop looked at the alien as it's head was suddenly blown to pieces. It's blood burned away a holy cross hanging on the wall. He pushed the alien's body of him and got up. He picked up Carmen, who had passed out and ran back to Johner.
"Sorry for the delay, but I had some close encounters back here." Johner said, looking like he was having the time of his life. In a blink Bishop saw something dark move above Johner.
"Above you!" He shouted.
"Fuck!" Johner cried when the alien landed on him.
"Shit, help me, man!!" Johner cried out in pain.
Bishop dropped Carmen and kicked the alien with all his strenght. The creature was thrown off Johner for a second, which was just long enough for Johner to aim his gun at the creature and blow it away.
"Ah, fuck that was close." Johner said.
"Can you walk?" Bishop asked.
"Hey, it's me." Johner replied while getting up.
"So, let's get out of here." Bishop said while picking up Carmen. They ran back to the main gate where they met the others.
"What kept you so long?" the general asked.
"Hey, at least we had the guts to stick around long enough to get your daughter out of there, pal." Johner shouted aggressively.
The general looked around Johner and saw Carmen, hanging over Bishop's shoulder.
"Oh, thank God, she's alive!" The general cried out while taking Carmen in his arms.
"Yeah, no thanks to you, all mighty general, slayer of the Mars rebellion." Morse said with a sharp voice.
"Carmen, carmen...can you hear me?" General Mordan asked.
"She's still unconcious." Bishop said.
"Is she going to be all right?" Morden asked with a worried face.
"I donæt know, she's going to be in a hospital for quite a long time, that's for sure. She needs professional help. We need to get her to Earth, Mars or some other place with a real hospital." Bishop said.
"You said it, Bishop, we need to get the fuck out of here, now." Morse said nervously.
"No! We need that queen!" Morden suddenly shouted.
"Well, what do we know, our great hero, with nerves of steal, is also a great family man!" Morse shouted hysterically.
"Stop pestering me, you stupid barbaric rapist, you couldn't even begin a family even if you wanted to. Your brain isn't really compatible with female presence, now is it...Wanker?!"
Morse's face slowly turned red.
"Ok, that's it. This fucker is the reason we're in his shit in the first place. So why don't we just aim at his head and splashi it all over the fucking wall!!" Morse shouted as loud as he could, putting his gun at the general's head. For a moment there was silence. Finally Johner calmly said
"Well...ok, I don't have a problem with that."
"Ok ok ok!! Wait! Just... wait a minute, ok? I've got a plan. We're a team remember?"
"yah, but we're not the ones abandoning team members when they're in touble, asshole." Johner said, also aiming his gun at the man's head.
"I know what we're going to do, so just listen to me!" There was silence.
"Ok, thank you. Now, here's the deal. One person flies Carmen out of here, brings her to the closest colony, where they can take care of her, then he flies back here to pick the rest up. In the mean time, the group that was left behind here has already collected the queen's bloodsample. Then we can all fly out of here and be happy, rich and famous for the rest of our lives."
"Jesus Christ, you're full of shit man." Johner said.
"I can't believe this guy." Morse added.
"Look dick-head, we're the ones pointing guns at your fucking face, so how the hell do you figure that you're going to tell us what to do?" Johner said.
"Right, who says we're not simply goint to blow your brains out and get out of here without coming back, ever." Morse added.
"Because, that's impossible." Morden said.
"Oh, it's very well possible, pal. Just watch us." Johner said.
"The second you kill me the ship blows up and we'll all be fucked." Morden said.
"What?" Morse asked.
"Sounds like bullshit to me." Johner said.
"Oh, what? Did you guys really think I'd be that stupid? That I didn't see it coming ahtat a bunch of criminals would turn against me? Well, sorry boys, but it was the first thing I arranged prior to our mission, to see to that you needed to keep me alive. First I thought about having a self-destruct button of the ship with me all the time, but then I thought 'No, too primitive'. So I arranged something a little more dramatic." Morden said with a self-loving expression on his face.
"Ok, Morse, lets give him a few more seconds to make sense."
"The point is that I have a transmittor in my body that constantly tells the main computer on the ship wether or not I'm alive. It's next to my heart. The moment my heart stops beating, the ship blows. Now, does that make enough sense to you, gorilla boy?"
"Yeah right. so what if you would have been killed by an alien? Would we all be fucked, just because you would have been so stupid to get yourself killed?" Johner asked.
"Yep."
"Jesus, you really are a team player, aren't ya, pal."
"What does the USM think of this kind of arrangements?" Bishop asked.
"Oh, we all know that to achieve treat goals, we have to bend the rules a little bit sometimes." Morden smiled.
"Wait a minute. I'm not saying that I'm buying this shit yet. Who says you're not simply making all of this up right now to save your ass?" Johner asked.
"Well, I don't know, I guess you'll just have to try." Morden said.
Morse and Johner slowly put their guns down.
"Good, I didn't think so. Now let's just say that you'll all have to take very good care of me. Otherwise, I might just get dead and then...well, you know. Boom."
Johner shoved his gun back under his belt and looked at the general with an unexpected grin on his face.
"Is there something you wanted to say?" Morden asked Johner, noticing the grin.
"I don't need to say a goddamned thing." Johner calmly said just before he kicked the man in the groin with all his strenght.
"You'r heart is still beating, isn't it?" Johner asked the general sho was laying on the ground, making strange noises.
"Ok, Bishop, you seem to be the smart one here, so tell us what now?" Johner asked.
"Well, the general's plan of flying her out of here, isn't going to work, because we don't trust each other enough for that sort of thing."
"So what about us dragging the general into the ship wether he likes it or not and just fly out of here all together. I mean, all we have to do is keep him alive." Morse suggested.
"That's what you think you little fuck, I can get the ship to blow at any time I want. I also have a self-destruct device on me." The general said while slowly trying to get up.
There was silence. After a while the general managed to stand up again.
"Now you listen to me, gorilla boy, if you touch me again we're all going nowhere. Has everyone got that?!...Good, so it would seem I'm still in charge." The general said.
"Ok, fucking great! So what do you suggest?" Morse cried out, sounding deep ly frustrated.
"We've had enough for today, we're going back to the ship. WE'll aske one of these monks to come along and take care of Carmen. If splitting up the group doesn't work with you guys, we'll just have to see to that she is taken care of here."
"She needs professonal help." Bishop said.
"Yeah, well, thanks to you guys not trusting each other, she's not going to get it!" Morden shouted.
"No, thanks to you, only careing about getting famous, she's not going to get it." Bishop rephrased.
"Yeah, yeah, we've all got different perspectives on the situation. That's what happens if humans have a discussion. Now, let's move!" General Morden shouted while heading for the ship.
