Purvis is neither a member of the crew of Auriga nor Betty. He is one of the only victims. He was on his way to his job in some refinery. His cryotube and others was stolen by the 'Betty' crew and sold to General Perez as hosts for the alien embyros. The embyro inside of Purvis didn't burst out at once. Purvis woke up under the attack from the aliens, desoriented. He then lie down to sleep and then Ripley 8 finds him. Purvis is nervous and desoriented and doesn't know what to belive. Ripley 8 don't want to take him with them, since he has been impregnated. They descides to take him with them anyway and freeze him when they reach the 'Betty'.When they reach the 'Betty' and is inside, they are just about putting Purvis in the freeze when Wren comes in. Wren shoots Purvis in the sholder. Purvis sinks together next to a ladder. Suddenly the burster starts it's work and is pounding at his chest, making him bleed out of his mouth and on the chest. Purvis then throws himself at Wren, hitting him and banging Wren's head in the floor, but only after Wren has shot Purvis several times. Purvis then throws Wren away and sinks down on the flor, grabbing his chest. He gets up again and pulls Wren close to his chest just when the burster goes through his chest and also through Wren's head. Purvis and the burster is then shot by Call, Johner and DiStephano.
