I was saying, Don't do it! Don't do it! I saw that cigarette! I knew what it would mean! And I thought it would all be all right as he took the one file and proceeded calmly up the elevator, to reveal to Spender the secret that had not been a secret to us all. And then the fire alarm went off and I think I jumped up and started yelling something like "He did it! He did it!" because he had done it. He had done it and now I just want to thwack things and I am dangerously close to beginning to swear. *Deep breath, Aniad. Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in, breathe out.*

Why? The X-Files are shut down. But that's all right- it's been done before, in The Elenmyer Flask, finale of season one. Mulder and Scully endured separation and then were reunited after one tragedy- Scully's abduction in the One Breath trilogy. The lady, Diana, was shot, an even greater tragedy, but no one dies on The X-Files anyway, so I was only rather upset about that. I really liked her, too. She rules- she had that first sympathetic look in her eye the moment she saw Mulder analyze the videotape to shreds. She was just cool, though I know no one can hold a candle to Scully, who balances Mulder so perfectly that no one can match her. If Diana dies, Scully will be there to take her place, and maybe she will try to accept just enough of Diana in herself to make her balance with Mulder even more perfect and true, and then that will be all right. And the child, I pity him- he is so great and wonderful and hyper-spiffen, I wish his life was simple and happy for once. He deserves it. And the Cancer Man, that vile figure that I had almost begun to thought was good, set fire to the X-Files, destroying all that Mulder had worked for, (oh, this is paining me to type), destroying all that he had fought against Mulder to do, and then dismissed it as nothing with one Morley cigarette! HE IS EVIL, IN HUMAN FORM, FATHER OF EVIL, PROBABLY GRANDFATHER OF EVIL! HE BEGUILES YOU INTO THINKING THAT HE MIGHT BE GOOD, THAT HIS WRINKLED FACE MIGHT SOMEDAY APPEAR BENIGN, ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT HIS ROOTS OF EVIL RUN FAR, FAR DEEPER THAN HIS ROOTS OF BENEFACTORIE. AND HE CANNOT DIE- FOR, LIKE TRUE EVIL, NO MATTER HOW MUCH BLOOD HE SPILLS, HE WILL ENDURE, AND EVEN IF HE DOES NOT, HE WILL HAVE SPAWNED SO MANY EVIL SEEDS THAT THE CAN SCARCELY BE ELIMINATED!!!!!!
Calm down, Aniad. It is a television show. It is a very good television show, a television show that may reflect all of life and humanity, but calm down and stop pounding the living daylights out of the keys of your poor abused computer.

That was incredible. It was a confusion of nothingness of great signifigance that was a little over my head, until that moment in which he viewed the office. Then everything became a little too simple. The X-Files are, for now, gone. Mulder's poster of belief is in ashes, barely recognizable. Scully's cross, I am hoping hiding under her shirt somewhere, hangs, perhaps for the moment forgotten, as she comforts Mulder and herself on the loss of one part of their life. People everywhere lay in confusion as they wonder: Is this The End, as was so starkly and scarily stated as clouds rolled over that mountain during that one last note that means to us X-Philes the wonderfullness of all X?
It is not The End. The X-Files will return. I, personally, and all that wonderful lunch group, and a few more besides, will be there, in that dark movie theater at the first possible instance, waiting to see how the return will occur. I hope to laugh a bit now- I need it. I laughed as the show began, yet hoping that the show would go beyond laughing. I am beyond laughing now, and I almost want to go back. Only so wonderful a show as The X-Files can do this to me, and to you, and to all the fans out there. In the shared presence of popcorn and darkness and that screen with its warning to take note of the nearest exits, we will meet again. It's been a great season, everyone. The mailinglist has traveled all the way from Redux I to The End. Some of you have traveled all the way, and some have been picked up on some rutted spot of travelling, grabbing onto the mailinglist and hauling yourself up as it continues to move. The entire season has been traveled. I hope you all will stay on for whatever may come in the future. The long, wild ride continues to grow and become more wild. One brief hug, everyone, yes, even you, Valerie, one brief all-inclusive hug as we strengthen to see what lays around the corner, what awaits us from the land of X.
