Subject: DRTUYS Triangle!
I saw the video preview, the one with Mulder on what looked SO like the Titanic and kissing Scully and... and I was really confused. Then I heard the name, Triangle, and thought, Oooooh, a Bermuda Triangle bit. And then I had someone tell me about he audio preview, the one in which Mulder says "Scully... I love you." And I thought that it might be... interesting.
This was one of the stupidest episodes ever. But I liked it SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!
It, like Clyde Brugman's Final Repose, should not be your first episode. I can see why The X-Files scares some people away. One had to keep a VERY open mind for this one. The Bermuda Triangle bit was a touch overdone- but the effects, the parallel dimensions camera shots and the GREAT cinamatography, it was pretty cool.
I have not laughed that hard in SO long. I was just hyper and diddly throughout, because it was that kind of episode. From, well, the Lone Gunmen, to Scully running around, to Mulder running around, to to "JAMAICA!!!!!!!!!", to everyone's parallel self, to the end. The end. Yes! a Wizard of Oz takeoff. SOOOOO funny. So pointless, so stupid, but SOOOOOOOOOOOO funny!
Now, cinamatography- wow!!!! Each segment was something like one camera shot! That must have been SO HARD! I have great respect for The X-Files crew. A LOT of respect. And the old movie format was interesting, if a pointless gimmick. Everything just worked in a really cool way.
Oh, yes- don't you love it how one thing can make a scene funny? One guy making eye-contact with Scully in an elevator. One guy chasing Scully's car.
This episode could be labeled: Scully's Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day meets The Wizard Of Oz. It was that kind of episode. Craziness.
But at least we have the assurance that our beloved characters will remain the same, even in parallel dimensions.
A mild complaint about that- it was pointless and, so far as I k now, completely not backed up by anything. If there ARE parallel dimensions on top of each other, as may be explained just by taking dimensions a step further (just think it out... or E-mail me... (what is the sixth dimension, anyway?)), why would everyone except Mulder have a partner in that dimension? Ah, well. It was a stupid, if funny episode.
As was that wonderful car commercial, of the man playing the tuba. That has to be the boldest thing I have ever seen done in commercials. (Argh! This media-literacy class has warped my mind! Target-audience ratings are going through my head! Make it stop!) And yet, I do not remember what car the commercial was for. Something with three doors. Ah, well. It was amusing. It fit the X-Files episode well.
