CLARITY OF THE PAST

It is only through learning from our past that we may deal with what may come in the future. In the tragedies that have recently befallen our country, on September 11, I felt it necessary to remind myself of what has happened before so that I may not forget.

"I slept and dreamed that life was beauty.  I awoke -- and found that life was duty." -Ellen Stugis Hooper

"Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." -George Santayana

"That which does not kill us makes us stronger" -Friedrich Nietzsche
