I am stunned. In awe. That was probably one of the best episodes of X-Files I have ever seen. I loved it!!! It was so sad, but so good. I am thankful I have this on tape.
The emotions of fear, or of sadness, are difficult to portray, but the emotions in this episode are even more complex, so kudos to the actors, particularly David Duchovny, for masterful performances. They all did wonderfully.
In the beginning of the episode, where it shows the detectives at the crime scene crying, I thought was a good touch. It made it all more real. The way Mulder and Scully react to the help offered by Harold Piller was totally in character, which was good. Mulder always running off, to believe it, and Scully hesitating. But this time Piller was the one who was right. The house at the base with the heand prints in the concrete was good. Samantha had grown up with Jeff Spender for a few years, although that begs the question: Why didn't Jeff say anything? But then again, how old was Jeff at that point? He may not have remembered, or someone could have made him not remember. Scully's confrontation of CSM was good, and her discovery at Teena's house was certainly significant, even if it didn't amount to anything. The return trip to the base and the little seance was interesting, and then the discovery of Sam's diary. It was so sad, but it was a such a good element in bringing it all to a close. Poor Samantha, though. It was so sad. Then, when they found the records of her admittance to the hospital, and talked to nurse. It was so sad. And when Mulder sort of wandered off to finally find out what happened, it was very good. It was very, very sad when Mulder is finally reunited with his sister, but only her ghost. The actress who played Samantha was very pretty. It was good, though. It finally brought that closure to the whole Samantha arc. The sense of peace around Mulder when he came back from his encounter was a difficult thing to portray, but DD did it very well. It was funny, and sad, how Piller refused to believe about his son what he'd been telling everyone else. I liked the explanation of how the children lived in the starlight. It was pretty, and brought that closure. Overall, a terrific episode.
