No doubt with a title like that, you were expecting something incredibly profound, but, well, actually it's just an odd thought that AR and I have been rolling around, and I thought I might get some opinions on.
Last night we watched Archangel (which I realized I had not sat all the way through again ever since the first time I saw it), and then of course we had to watch Avatar and Armageddon so she could see how the whole thing resolved. And I was actually able to look past the trauma of Richie losing his head and go - man, this is a weird story line for this show. Duncan as not just another immortal, but some chosen Champion who is supposed to fight an every-thousand-years demon? Very strange. I like the way it builds on everything else that's happened to make Duncan grow as a person, but the fact is that it has a very different feel from the rest of the series - it sort of feels like an alternate universe or something.
But I digress. AR was quite disappointed that Methos was not in Avatar and Armageddon - I explained why Peter couldn't be there and all, but still, it does take a chunk out of the story to have him totally disappear.
And then reappear with no explanation in "Indiscretions", which we watched along with "To Be" and "Not To Be" the night before. And this little niggling thought that's been hovering in the back of my head decided to show itself:
What happened when Methos and Duncan first met up (after AAA)? How did Methos find out about what finally happened with Ahriman? Sure, Joe could have filled him in, but Joe doesn't even really know what happened, and that's a cop out anyway. Duncan is off in London when Methos first stops by the barge, and then the first time we see them together is when Duncan comes to tell Joe that O'Rourke has Amanda. He doesn't look at all surprised to see Methos there. Which I think have if it had been the first time Methos had shown up. And then Methos goes back to the barge with him and they start the old familiar game of Methos trying to talk sense while Duncan is agonizing over in this case an overwhelming personal dilemma.
If it works for you the way it is, hey, no problem. But if not, what do YOU think Duncan and Methos would have said to one another when Methos first sauntered over to the barge (when Duncan was actually home)? Or wouldn't he have done so? How else could they have met up?
I can smell a fanfic in there somewhere, but I haven't the faintest what it might be yet. As soon as I figure it out I'll let you know. But I bet it will come faster if I have a bunch of differing opinions to bounce off of. So lay 'em on me!
Peace, JR
