Sorry I've been away for a bit - reorganizing priorities and all. It's all well and good to joke about our HL obsession, but in reality a lot of life is about finding a proper balance, and if you don't keep that in mind, sooner or later it seems to come back and bite you :)
I've been lurking just a little from time to time, but without being immersed in HL it is harder to come up with great insightful ideas. However, I've really missed everyone - the list under Big John's post brought on this big wave of homesickness. So, lacking any great and wonderful new insights, I thought I'd ask your opinion about something that meant a lot to me in "Not To Be".
What do you think Fitz meant when he said: "MacLeod - Look up!"
Or, what did it make you think of?
In the context of the story, it makes most sense to me to have meant - look up to God. Being religiously inclined myself, it was like having Highlander join the real universe. It was as if Fitz was saying - "MacLeod, you don't have to do it alone. You aren't in charge of the universe. You don't have to make all the hard decisions without guidance. There is peace, and light, and love from a source outside yourself. And the people you have lost aren't gone forever. Don't just look inward. Look up!"
Of course, if you aren't religiously inclined, you probably didn't see it that way. I guess I am interested in both what you thought it meant in the show, and what it meant to you. I have been hestitant to start a discussion on this, since it meant so much to me, but hey. We're all family here, right? A very diverse family, but that's part of what makes this place so wonderful.
Peace,
Jeanne Rose
