Miniatures Gallery

This page will always be under construction, so long as new miniatures are being released.

This is a page about the miniatures I use to play the game. Every once in awhile I get the bright idea of entering painting contests. The ribbon above (and one a little later) come from the miniatures painting contest hosted by the Strategicon gaming conventions. Both ribbons are for the Best (non GW) Unit division of their contest.

Below you will find thumbnails of miniatures photos. Click on the thumbnail for a larger view. These miniatures were paint my both myself and my wife. Each photo caption will contain a brief comment on the colors and techniques used. All of the miniatures are finished with Krylon's Artist Matte clear spray acrylic.

Mimbari Ships

B5mini11.JPG (35878 bytes) The Mimbari ships in these photos were primed with gray spray primer. They then had a base coat of Intermediate Blue spray enamel put on them. Next purple and green were added to the "ribs" using  acrylic paints The hard edges and ghost stripes were added by dry brushing on True Blue acrylic. The guns were painted with Blue Angle Blue and Insignia yellow acrylic. B5mini10.JPG (31363 bytes)
B5mini12.JPG (45402 bytes) The Mimbari fighter and the flyer  were sprayed with the same primer and base coat as the capital ships. The figures were then dry brushed with True Blue acrylic. The flyer was washed with a very thin purple acrylic and water mixture. The cockpits were painted with gloss black and the exhausts on the rear of the miniatures were painted white. The fighter bases were made by me after seeing something like then in the More Thrust rule book. The die is rotated in the base to show the number of remaining fighters in that group. b5mini03.jpg (66001 bytes)

Centauri Ships

cent1.jpg (18916 bytes) These Centauri ships were primed the same as the ships above. Plum acrylic paint was then airbrushed on for the base coat. The metallic hull sections were painted with Pewter acrylic. The hanger on the battle cruiser was painted with red acrylic and the with red ink to give a slight transparent glowing effect. Fin edges and guns are painted with Bronze acrylic. Engine intakes and exposed machinery are all painted dark gray, while the exhausts are painted dark gray with white down in the center of the cones. B5mini33.JPG (25364 bytes)

The Narn

These Narn ships were painted by my wife after they were primed and had a base coat of Aggressor Grey put on them. After she finished the with acrylic paint, decals from Tangents were added. The clear coat was applied after the decals

Raider Ships

B5mini21.JPG (53104 bytes)

B5mini24.JPG (40686 bytes)

The raider carrier was primed and had a base coat of Aggressor Grey sprayed on it. Details were added with acrylic paints. Tobacco Brown ink was used to add dirt before clear coating. The Battle Wagon treated the same as the carrier. The fighters were primed and then I brushed on a base coat of medium brown. My wife then painted the random pattern camo on them. The details were then added by my wife and myself. B5mini27.JPG (41453 bytes)

The Brakiri

B5mini32.JPG (38870 bytes) The Brakiri ship was primed as normal. The base coat of Pale Olive Green was airbrushed on because it didn't come in a spray. The paint was very thin and took a dozen coats to cover the primer. The ship was then sealed with clear coat to stop the green from rubbing off while the details were added. Once the rest of the painting was done, the ship was clear coated again.

The Vorlons

B5mini07.JPG (33616 bytes) B5mini08.JPG (43460 bytes) B5mini04.JPG (25291 bytes)
B5mini05.JPG (25023 bytes)

These Vorlon miniatures were painted very much like all the other minis on this page. However, there is on difference. The mottled pattern was created by using a dry brush technique with a fan brush and medium grey paint. The pattern is hard to see in these photos. I'll post new photos once ai figure out how the light these things. I haven't gotten any better results using a flash indoors.
