A Little Irish Boy

Born in August 1st 2328, at Killarney near the Shannon
River in Ireland, Thomas Alexander Andrews, was the son
of Mary Andrews and William Andrews. Being the older son, he
was the one that would experience his family's traditions and
then pass them along to his younger brother William and sister
Elizabeth. Despite all this, his family was not from Earth,
but Janus II but had moved to the mother planet of the Federation
some one hundred years ago. On those days, he probably
liked more of cats and model ships than space exploration
and at school he the quiet boy in the back of the room
that would not give the teacher a rest, should he think he
had reasons to be a rebel.
He grew normally with regular grades in school and high
school, grades that were adequate for any family but not Thomas'.
Like any other child of his age, he dreamed about playing
soccer, or being someone famous on the media and never
thought about joining Star Fleet. His father was possibly
one of the richest men on earth, with an empire of hardware
companies that fed the Federation's exploration machine.
With several shipyards throughout the quadrant and several
key systems' being produced in far away planets, the Andrews
Space Hardware Ltd. had kept up with the Federation's rate
of expansion, claming several planets even before UFP itself
had arrived there. Of course, such an empire would require
a proper helmsman and Thomas would eventually be it.
In the 2330's, the rate of exploratory journeys made by
civilians, was reaching a halt. They had always been expensive
in the past, but as the known territory grew, more dangerous
enemies appeared, thus making explorations only affordable by
the big starfleet warships. Still, ASH Ltd., like
other companies, continued on exploring the territories near
its interests, although not leaving the UFP's borders anymore.
With a lot of pirates about, every major company did its best
to patrol the areas around its major infrastructures from
an eventual attack. The days of exploring and claiming the
soil you touched before others, had ended... since the late
2250's that it slowed down more and more, and Thomas didn't
care much. He liked firm ground, not the stellar emptiness.
Unfortunately, since the days of his great grand father,
that all the sons should embark on a space trip to
"treasure your legacy, and learn how to defend it!".
