Background: Katya grew up in St. Petersburg living a somewhat sheltered and
spoiled life since her parents doted on her. After high school went to Moscow
and majored in communications. There she met Vasily and in her second year,
defying her parents for the first time in her life, they married. During her
third year, she left the university to raise their son. Her brother had moved
to a colony near the Cardassian border which the Federation handed to
Cardassia when the peace treaty went into effect. Josef then joined the
Maquis, keeping it secret from their parents since they wouldn't approve. On a
visit to introduce her brother to his new nephew, a Cardassian raiding party
killed her brother, husband and son, and raped her. Found by some traders, she
spent the next nine months in a hospital and therapy, until able to convince
the therapists to let her return home to her parents and continue counseling
with daily office visits. Overwhelmed by anger and grief, Katya decided to
join the Maquis and disowned her parents when they tried to talk her out of
it. Wanting vengeance, she sought out everyone who could teach her anything
about weaponry, and now her only goal in life is to kill Cardassians.
