(Mays original desc.)
A great bush of firey red hair curls in tiny circlets above her forhead often wrinckle in consternation.
Beneath thick brows shine her fathers bright grey eyes and a petit button nose, chubby cheeks
and rounded chin; chubby, too, her short arms reach out to grab anything new and interisting.
Strong and sturdy, her short legs lack any resemblance to those of her mother, though even in their
lack of lythe, bear her with uncommon grace and agility.
(May's current desc.)
A great bush of fiery red hair curls in tiny circlets above her slender
forehead often wrinkled in consternation. Beneath thin brows shine her
father's bright grey eyes and a petite button nose, freckled cheeks and
rounded chin; freckled, too, her slender arms often just reach out and take
anything she wants. Strong and sturdy she is looking more and more like her
mother every day, long legs bearing her with uncommon grace and agility.
The flame of red curls is complimented by the foresty greens of May's simple
sun dress. Thin straps curve over slender shoulders with green firelizards
embroidered in mirthful play. Those same mischievous creatures also play along
the high waist line ribbon that gently circles just below a developing breast
and ties at May's upper back in an elaborate bow. From there the soft fabric
flows in simple folds to a few inches above her knees. Lengthy legs can then
be admired down to her forest green enshrouded feet, the left slipper accented
by a simple golden anklet with an emerald eyed firelizard pendant.
Darling and lovely, thats May if you dont know her well. ;) She was born at
Telgar Weyr to Lady Gamma, rider of golden Spectreth, and the not so fatherly
T'lor, rider of bronze Jisanth.
She was a spritly tot, with boundless curiosity and endless energy. She went
through nannies like peanuts for the first few years of her life, Gamma unable
to find one that would stick with the job for long. May was very good at
sneaking away and getting into situations that would cause anyone's heart to
stop. When May was around three turns old the Igen situation took her mother
and their little family to a new home in the Rukbat burned deserts of Pern.
May /adored/ this change. Now, she was not only a Weyrwomans only child, she
was /the/ Weyrwomans only child. The whole of Igen seemed to think that
lavishing May with toys and treats was a good way to thank Gamma for her
deliverance of Yaluta. And did May mind this? Not one itty bitty bit, she
sucked it up.
And at this point another prominant figure in May's current life came into
play, her Unkle G'min. Who was Garmin when he first came to Igen. It wasnt
long though, before he impressed to the most hansome of dragons, Eratoth.
G'min is now Weyrleader of Igen, with his sister Gamma as his Sr. QueenRider.
But /thats/ a whole other story.
May lucked out once more at Igen, finding herself a nanny she could coerce
into just about anything, yet Kilmara was still able to keep May from her more
dangerous stunts, and that is what impressed Gamma. Kilmara tended to May for
many turns, constantly seen chasing the girl across the bowl, or storming into
the LC to find May skipping out of Harper lessons. Granted, this did wear on
poor Kilmara's heart and mind, having to constantly deal with the stress of an
extreamly spolied child, yet she felt unable to really punish May, fearing
Gamma's dissaproval.
In the end, when May was of an age that she no longer needed a constant
attendant, Kilmara retired perminantly from her nanny duties. She was still
young, but she was not willing to take the chance of getting another charge
like lovely May.
From that time on May learned to be a little more discrete about her
adventures. She had gathered quite a following of other youngsters from the
lower caverns, her group not quite the bullies, but definitely a force to be
contended with and respected by their peers. They got into many... incidents.
Thus causing Gamma a bit more stress than she was used to, Kilmara usually
handled any upset residents or riders. But, with the nanny gone, the Weyrwoman
had to placate and compensate for her daughters mishaps.
Those mishaps began to stack up, one after another, after another, after
another. May didnt seem to care if she got in trouble, nothing that was really
all that bad could be done to her. She felt invinceable. Until Gam's finally
put her foot down... hard. One final incident involving a deep purple dye in
the baths that turned several people into smurfs sent May packing off to her
birth Weyr of Telgar, complete with a note to Toria about May's new
restrictions and responsibilities. As well, two riders, a weyrmated pair, were
sent to keep an eye on May... all the time. They were her _constant_
companions. Every where she went at least one of them went with her. Meals,
baths, walks around the bowl, she could not escape them no matter how hard she
tried.
May absolutely hated this. She was torn from her friends, flung into the icy
(to her) climate of Telgar's mountains, forced to have a constant shaperone,
life just wasn't fun and she took it out on most every Telgarian she met.
Grumpy, irritable, snappish. She didnt make many friends.
Things staied that way for quite a few sevendays, Gamma refusing to take May
back until some sense was knocked into the girl. May, just as stubbornly,
refusing to let any sense get knocked in. So, said sense crept its way in
gradually.
She found a partner in crime after Telgar's Queen laid a clutch of eggs and
candidates came streaming in. One bouncie and highly energetic Hotaru snapped
May right out of her dark and cloudie mood, shocking her into giggles and
forming a fast friendship. The two shopped and spent Gamma's marks, got into
little scuffs, but nothing out of the ordinary. May had learned a thing or two
about subtly and sneekieness. She had to in order to have any privacy with her
weyrmated chaperones. So, when things did get a little out of the ordinary,
May and Hotaru made sure they were the least suspected. "Garlic in the
bubblies? We were out helping clean dragons at the lake all day!" except the
ten minutes it took to spie the bubblies cooling and the clove of garlic just
begging to be tucked in. They would giggle about it in private, for the
chaperones had let up a little on their choke hold, but Hotaru and May had
found a certain art form in tricks with out getting caught. They might have
gotten to a point of terrorizing the Weyr, but just as things seemed to be
going so well, they changed once more.
The eggs Hotaru was searched for finally hatched, including a gold egg. And
when that little desert yellow creature looked at Hotaru, May knew with out
her saying a word. Hotaru impressed gold Isaramaath and went into the busy
life of Weyrling training, no longer with idle times on her hands, she was
flung into a life of many hours of study and work. Not only that, but Gamma
finally decided May was ready to come home. Yet again, she was taken from
something she had just gotten used to and was shoved back into a life where
the majority of her old friends were afraid to even speak to her less they get
in trouble.
Again, May was not a happy camper. She bided her time around Igen for a little
while, and then, glory of all glories, she was searched! Sayurith had clutched
on the sands and hardening eggs now graced Igen with their presence. And once
May was settled into the barracks she assumed an attitude of snobbery. Of
course /she/ was searched. Her parents ride both gold and bronze. She was
_destined_ to be a goldrider herself and everyone had better realize that! Or
so was her thinking at the time. It didn't matter that Sayurith hadn't lain
any such gold egg. Sayurith was a young gold, she just didn't know the gold
egg was out there. So May went about picking out all the yellow tinted eggs on
the sands. Any egg that was the slightest bit bigger and had even a tiny bit
of goldish tint to it was her egg. Hers! Through out her candidacy she was
somewhat aloof and demanding. Chores didn't go well, but she survived until
the hatching. On that day she hopped around each egg she had pegged for gold,
and got upset at each one for not hatching her gold. When all was said and
done, she was left on the sands with the others. Gamma, again, was blamed for
all her troubles.
She kept to herself allot after that. The disappointment and reality shock of
not impressing, the trauma of being trapped, and the thought that her mother
really could care less about her was a little much for her to handle. But she
did slowly recover. Gradually came back into life. A visit from Hotaru was the
most beneficial. And on that visit Gamma decided to tell May of a camp at
Telgar May was going to attend. Since Hottie was there, Hottie plaid transport, and once at Telgar, Hottie plaid host. The camp never happened, but
May staid at Telgar for another extended visit. Hotaru and May were back to
their old habits, though now things began to center more on boys than pranks.
Hotaru had developed to a stick like figure while May had more curves than she
knew what to do with. They would sit and rant for hours about which was
better, and really did try to find a way to swap May's excess to Hotties lack
and make a happy medium in them both. But that was only until May got the idea
to go visit mother.
Back to her usual self, having almost completely blocked out the hatching and
the catacomb events, May cooked up the idea to give Gamma a gift. A tree. A
rather large tree. Set neatly in the middle of Gamma's weyr. May herself isn't
entirely sure why she did it. But deep down, it was a lash back at Gamma for
not being there when May was trapped, even if it wasn't the Weyrwoman's fault.
At any rate, Gamma's retaliation was to send May a nice little letter,
thanking her for the gift and sending regretful news that May's cherished bed
had been destroyed in an 'accident'. May was absolutely livid. She was so
enraged that she couldn't even think of a way to get back at Gamma. She
stalked around Telgar for quite a while, deliberating on her options, but none
fit. She finally got so angry that she went back to Igen and found Gamma in
the kitchens. The battle ensued, but Gamma came out the victor. May conceded
Gamma's authority over her as her Weyrwoman, but not as her mother. It was
then that May was assigned to Perdita and Noa. Because of this argument with
Gamma, May has become a little more... behaved? Not that she's giving up her
troublesome ways, but she can see that she's pushed Gamma to the limit and she
is biding her time. She's also just turned seventeen, and she's maturing a
little. That tantrum backfired on her completely this time, she can't get away
with that sort of thing any more and she realizes that now. So, she is waiting
for something to come up, something to happen, or some idea that will lead her
to finally getting the upper hand with her mother. In her mind it's all about
a battle for her right to be her own person and not have to answer to Gamma.
Silly in a way since Gamma will always be a Weyrwoman, no matter if May is all
grown up and on her own or not.
Perdita now, has become May's second best friend. Perdi was assigned the task
of finding May a new bed by Gamma. A cot was suggested. But when the Headwoman
went to find the dimensions of May's room, she also found May's dismantled bed
in Gamma's bathing area. Perdi put the whole thing back together and May was
absolutely gooey over the it all. The two have become good friends, Perdita
sharing details of her new relationship with May and the pair often seen
giggling over their work. In this aspect May quite enjoys her 'work' time with
Perdita.
Things have gone on this way for a while and now Spectreth has dropped a clutch of eggs on the sands, including a gold egg. May's not quite sure how she feels about this, and her feelings have been compounded by Nest and Echo asking her to become a candidate. Shes accepted, but shes worried. Not that she's showing it all that much. Yet still, shes been caught a few times just sitting and thinking with an oddly contemplative expression on her face.
This is May's Mamma Gamma, granted the dragon isnt exactly Pernease, but shes got that look about her that is all the confidence and power of Spectreth, and that beautiful lady down there is most definately, Gamma. ;) *beam* "Isnt my Mamma pwiddy??" We saw this at Dragon Con and just /had/ to get a print. I love it!
