The Silver Chair

The Silver Chair begins at Experiment House, where Eustace goes to school.  It is co-ed, the Head is a woman, and the children call each other by their surnames instead of their given names.  At this time, the Gang (a group of about fifteen boys and girls who are always "after" another well-behaved student) is making fun of Jill Pole's surname.  I really don't see what's so funny about it, but then, I'm not English.  They chase her through the grounds, where she runs into Eustace while hiding.  He tells her about Narnia because he thinks she's trustworthy, and they call on Aslan to bring them into Narnia.  They find themselves atop a high cliff, where Jill walks the edge of it.  Eustace runs to keep her from falling, but falls himself.  Aslan appears, blows Eustace away on his breath, and disappears.  Jill doesn't know what to do, so she cries.  After a time, she becomes thirsty and searches for a stream.  She finds one, but Aslan is sitting by it, and he refuses to leave.  Jill overcomes her initial fear that Aslan will eat her and drinks.
