Natives of Talos IV, Talosians are highly evolved beings who communicate with each
other primarily through high speed telepathy. Evolution has eliminated their emotional natures, but this was not a change they welcomed. In fact, boredom with their unemotional existence has led them to misuse their mental power. The Talosians look down on humans and use them as play things. The Talosians' magnified mental powers allow them to implant utterly realistic illusions into human minds to invoke pain, pleasure, and the entire range of human experience...and thus provide the Talosians with vicarious emotional thrills.
The first contact with these aliens occured on the U.S.S. Enterprise under the
command of Captain Christopher Pike. They came to this planet because of a distress call sent to them, informing that there were survivors of an old survey mission. When a landing party arrived on the planet, Captain Pike was taken prisoner by the Talosians, and subject to a number of illusions with a girl named Vena. He was finally released when the Talosians discovered that humans were to violent a race to keep captive. Vena stayed on the planet, because she liked the illusions of beauty the Talosians gave her.
Years later, Captain Pike returned to this planet after a radiation accident, and was
reunited with Vena. To this end, they constructed a menagerie and populated it with humans to interact in their illusionary worlds. Travel to Talos IV is now forbidden.
