Tribbles are small loveable creatures that live throughout the galaxies. Little balls of
colored fur, they are a gentle species that respond to affection with a warm purr. Apart from their cooing, Tribbles exist for only two purposes: to eat and to reproduce, both of which they do almost conntiniously. Their voracious appetites, however, do not make them fat; in fact, eating only makes them asexually reproduce in greater numbers. Hence, a single tribble is not merely one tribble, but an entire colony unto itself. They make wonderful pets for humans who are willing to accept the risks associated with such profilic creatures.
The U.S.S. Enterprise first encountered the tribbles while at Deep Space Station K-7.
An interstellar trader, by the name of Cyrano Jones gave Lt. Uhura a tribble. When Uhura returned to the Enterprise with her new pet, the tribble quickly multiplied to the point where its offspring nearly overran th ship. The Tribbles also multiplied in the storage vents that contained the quadrotriticale at Space Station K-7. Unknown to K-7 or the Enterprise, the grain had been posioned by a Klingon spy. The remaining tribbles were picked up by Cyrano Jones, and those on the Enterprise were beamed aboard the Klingon ship. Unlike most, Klingons detest tribbles.
