Long Dream

I was driving down the road to southern Indiana to pick up my wife at her sister's home. Saw a For Sale sign in a yard of a house and thought I'd go look at the house. Pulled into the drive and as I pulled up to the garage door I realized the house appeared to have somewhat weathered but thick wood siding.

I ask to see the house and a Lady let me in. Entered a door between the kitchen and living or family room. There was an older man sitting in a chair watching TV towards the back of the house and I assumed he was the husband. Sometime either just before or after we went to the basement, he got up to leave and she ask him something that led me to believe that he was just a visitor of some sort and not her husband. The question was heard but not retained. The carpet or padding was 2 or 3 inches thick and I thought it was very comfortable although I had to pick my feet up quite high to walk.

Kind of a dull but pleasant house. It was more solid than it looked. She led me to the basement stairs and we went down. A full size basement with 2 beds. Nice, soft, light. In the far corner bed was a child, female I believe, about 10 or so asleep with her back to us. At the foot of the stairs was a chair with a teenage boy sitting in it and there was no indication that he knew or cared that we were there. He slept in the 2nd bed. I liked the basement and it's fairly high ceiling and saw the potential for another type of room. The walls were kind of odd and had the look of poured concrete that was pre-cast and set in place in vertical lengths. I ask her how old the house was and she told me it was assembled from a kit about 5 years ago.

We returned to the first floor and were met by 2 younger people just going out. She ask me why I would want to move to southern Indiana in a voice that seemed to indicate that she really didn't care for the area and I went into some speech about how I was born in the mountains of Virginia and missed the hills. I don't think she cared or believed it.

At some point I walked over to a door leading to the back of the house and the bedroom area and couldn't quite see through the small opening. The lady made no move to offer to show me that part of the house.

Then I looked up and out the large window that was above the kitchen sink and saw a really strange building across a very busy street that I didn't know was out back until that moment and knew that the house stood on property that was between the busy streets. That didn't bother me for some reason but the beautiful building interested me and then I realized it was a Chinese restaurant.

I told her I'd have to pick up my wife and call her if she wanted to see the house. All I could get of her name was Mrs. B...... Couldn't get more than the first letter of the name and at one time had part of the phone number.

That's about it.

Now we have a most interesting interpretation from one of our guests. What do you think?

"The long dream portrays a short but exciting love affair that you will engage in but it will be short and you will be able to solve the problems in your marriage and overcome any obstacles."
