Letter received from State Senator Beverly Gard, dated September 5, 2000.

September 5, 2000

Dear Mr. Jefferson,

Thank you for your letter concerning the Indiana program for certification of hypnotists.  I have enclosed a copy of the statute for your review.

It should be noted that this is a certification program NOT a licensure requirement.  Licensing would be far more restrictive.

The law does not require that those who engage in hypnotism in Indiana be certified.  They just cannot claim to be certified unless they are certified under Indiana law.  Those who teach relaxation or meditation are not affected unless they claim to be Indiana certified in hypnotism and are not.

I do not remember whether I voted for this or not.  It has been a while ago and I have cast a couple of thousand votes since then.

If you have additional thoughts or questions on this please contact me.

Sincerely,

Beverly Gard
State Senator
