Neuron Connections And What Science Can't Explain!

     Neurons connect in our brain to form all that we are.  Some of us are idiots, some are geniuses.  (And I had to look up geniuses in the dictionary so you now know which side of that fence I'm on)  People vary in intelligence and personality by how the brain forms as we grow into human beings.   A little chemical here and not enough there will alter our very essence.   Introduce a wrong chemical after we have formed and you have addictions, death, madness, and damage of all types in a person who may have never had problems.

     Science is doing a wonderful job of pinning down where events occur in the brain.  They can even "see" events as they happen and cause events during surgery by touching different parts of the brain.  Scientists now know what neuron connections look like and can see patterns that affect what we are.  They can even take real-time moving pictures of the neurons firing under different conditions.

     But they can't tell us who we are!

• They can't recognize our grandfather's memories.
• They can't see what makes us walk just like someone 6 generations back instead of 5 generations back.
• They can't tell us why our great grandfather may have been a horse thief but we're not.
• They can't tell us why some of us write poems and some of us don't.
• They can't tell us why a very young child in India can remember another life in another family and even know their names.
• They can't tell us why a young boy with a bullet in his brain And in a coma And not expected to live through the night can sit on the lap of Jesus and talk to his grandfather before being told to return to this world as it was "wasn't my time" yet.  (Article by: Phil Trexler of Knight Ridder Newspapers, published in The Indianapolis Star, Sunday September 5, 1999, "Boy in coma after shooting makes miraculous recovery")

     We operate on a number of levels and are only just beginning to unravel a few of the mysteries of life.  Knowing how neurons fire may be a part of the solution but only a small one.  It explains a little about biology and not much about why we have life.  The body is a tool for the soul or the spirit, whatever you wish to call it.  Maybe when we arrive at the next level, we will be able to look back to this part of the journey and laugh.
