Demonic Possession
Human kind has believed in demonic possession by one name or another for as long as man has had a spiritual consciousness. People sometimes do things so evil that there has to be special name or condition put on it.
When your nice neighbor that you have known for years goes berserk and does in the family or a half a dozen coworkers, people tend to say, "I wonder what got into him?"
Well, some would believe, "He's got the devil in him." while other folks would just say, "He's got a loose screw". Who's right? Do people harbor odd feelings for years and suddenly release pent up hostilities in some mammoth and violent act against loved ones? Or does something hideous come in from the dark side and take over their spirit?
Before humans understood the human mind, about the only way to explain such behavior was to assign it to some invisible evil being. Religion became involved and attempted to devise methods to remove the evil. Although the Catholic church has an established set of rituals to exorcise the evil, they are fairly quiet about it and approval to use exorcism has to come from fairly high up in the hierarchy.
It is established that brain damage causes a change of behavior in people so perhaps we have more than one cause for the meanness that comes over people at times. If we discount any percentage you choose up to 99% of the behavior changes to some sort of brain disorder, you will still have the second cause that we will attribute to demonic possession.
There is evil in the universe. It will invade people on occasion and take over their will. It may even push the core personality out of the body altogether making it somewhat of a true statement when you say, "He's out of his mind". It's almost as if the aura did a 180 degree flip-flop and turned the nature of the person to the dark side.
It is part of the religious culture of man that these evil beings that we call demons can be cast out and the person returned to normal.
