Getting Started |
We received a email from a guest asking a very simple question, (Paraphrased a little for clarity) "How do I get started with studies of the mind?". It threw us and we sent back a answer that we knew was unsatisfactory as the question had never been asked of us before. We have made a common mistake of site owners in assuming that everyone visiting the site must already have some knowledge of the subject matter.
We are not in the advice giving business. We have our beliefs but would never tell someone that ours is the only correct belief and they must follow it. We mostly just express opinions, tell and retell stories, and let our guests have their say. Our only agenda is that we love the Internet and the opportunity it provides to reach more people in a month than we've reached in the past 30 years.
From a more personal standpoint, my search for cosmic consciousness began over 40 years ago and the realization that there was some other dimension to our lives was as much a part of my thinking as was eating and sleeping. I just gravitated towards people with similar ideas.
There wasn't any set purpose or timeline to the quest for knowledge. Perhaps if there were it may not have taken so long to get as far along on the path as I have. But if I did have to follow specific steps, here is what might have happened.
1. Your sensing of the power puts you out front in the quest. You may not be conscious of anything more than a nagging feeling that you need to become more attuned to some force. That will separate you from those who have no apparent connection.
2. Read about events going on in your community that may be related to your interest. There may be study groups, a multitude of different religious groups, and formal organizations. Connection to the super consciousness isn't limited to any one group. You will probably find all persuasions of beliefs involved with some aspect of study. Be very open minded about the people you meet. There are some really interesting folks out there.
3. Hit the book stores and buy a variety of books on the mind. There are "how to" books on ESP, well researched books on the physics of the brain, books on meditation, hypnosis, reincarnation, dreams, positive thinking, and more. They help you acquire a different perspective on life. The more you read and think about the universe, how it came to be, the potential of many unknown forces, time, and how you can tap into the power, the stronger you become. It doesn't hurt to look into the skeptics web sites or books so you will know how to react to frauds.
4. Form a study group. Run personal ads in the smaller local papers. Like souls will show up and that is where the fun begins. Hopefully, you will find people with enough knowledge that each can contribute to your meetings. You will find to optimum number of people that you are comfortable with.
If anything has been left out of the above points, write to us with your suggestions. Thanks for your interest.
