A Good EQ Weekend

Ok, well, I've had a couple of good EQ days, and with no one amongst my RL
friends to share this with, why not a set of complete strangers who happen
to share my avocation? =)

Saturday, I log in, sit in the Nexus, and put /lfg on. Sometimes I can sit
that way for hours; sometimes I don't have to wait long at all. "Wanna
start an AE group in Seb?" comes floating across my chat screen not fifteen
minutes later.

Gosh, would I! I'm still 20 points away from getting Mass Group Buff; I
need all the AAXP I can get. So we find our chanters and wizards and tank,
and miraculously we find neither Kitchen nor Disco is camped. So we AE for
a good twelve hours. I make 45 blues of AA XP. Enough to get me Spell
Casting Mastery 1 and a fair jump towards SCM 2.

Now, for weeks I've been trying to get an Obulus Death Shroud. Alas, the
darned things are now about 15k and I've had an amazingly bad streak of
losing rolls on uber items that drop. I have almost no money, and have been
farming Seb off and on trying to get one to drop, to no avail. All during
the camp, I keep talking about how much I want an ODS and expressing my
disappointment when one fails to drop after we loot the 40 or 50 mobs.
Well, towards the end of the AE group an Obulus Death Shroud drops. As it
turns out, one of our wizards has to leave, so we immediately we begin to
roll on the loot collected so far, including the ODS. I watch in despair as
on a /random 200 500, a 452 is immediately followed by a 467. Everyone's
rolled but me, which leads to the following conversation (reconstructed from
memory):

You say, 'Dang. I gotta beat a 467?'
Wizzie_01 says, 'I won? Woot!'
Tank_01 says, 'Wait, Monual has to roll.'
Monual blwos on his dice.
Monual blows, even.
Chanter_01 says, 'Monual blows? :)'
Chanter_02 says, 'LOL'
Monual didn't mean it like that.
Tank_01 thinks Monual needs to roll.
Wizzie_02 agrees.
Monual rolls a pair of dice. It could have been any number between 200 and
500, but it was 498.
Chanter_02 says, 'OMG'
You say, 'Woooooooooot!'
Tank_01 laughs.
Wizzie_01 laughs.
Chanter_01 says, 'Wow... grats Mon.'
Tank_01 says, 'What do you want, Mon?'
You say, 'Hmm... let me think.'
You say, 'ODS'

So I got my Obulus Death Shroud. Man, what a difference this thing makes.
Mana Preservation III means that a Blessing of Aegolism, which used to take
over three bubs of mana, now takes two-and-a-half. I ain't never selling
this thing.

The next day I logged in and finally found a Ceremonial Solstice Robe for
sale for a reasonable price. I bought it and finally had what I needed for
my Earring of the Solstice. (BTW, the Bazaar makes this quest almost
trivial; you can just buy all the items you need, and quickly. The only
really hard items to find are the Blessed Fishing Rod and the Ceremonial
Solstice Robe. I refused to pay 3K for the former and 5K for the latter,
and just waited patiently until I found someone willing to sell them for
much less.) My first Flowing Thought item, and with nice stats to boot.

And then I went to Cazic Thule. I found a great group and we did the Sewers
for a few hours. While we didn't get the FT3 boots to drop (I've spent many
hours in the Sewers and have yet to see these things appear), I did manage
another 15 blues of AA XP. I'm now over halfway to SCM2 (I was disappointed
find that while SCM1 only took 2 AA points, SCM2 costs 4 points. I imagine
SCM3 will take six points... /sigh).

In all, I made an incredible amount of XP this weekend and made two really
major upgrades to my equipment. A very good weekend, and a personal
reminder of why I enjoy playing this game so much. ^_^
