personal combat they refuse to slay each other, recognizing a kindred spirit.
Later that night, tired with the
disregard for the lives of Orcs shown by the Recume Generals, Egrimm leads
his men over to the side of
Lactant
1076
Torcal is hired to defend the Capital Port city of Kurgal, the situation
seems desperate. The city is under
siege by the Babylonian army and has only a poorly equipped and ill trained
defence force.
Kurgal 1 As the Babylon army surrounds the city, anyone
who can flees. Duar goes into the market place
and appeals for volunteers. Vandor walks out of the unseasonable mist and
is the first to enlist.
Egrimm, who has wandered across the Erg in search of Torcal is next, then
comes Felix, Arran
and Zachery. Another forty five people step forward to serve under the
black stallion banner.
That afternoon, the North wall is breached and the city is saved for the
first time by the band of
Brethren. Eight are killed.
Kurgal 2 The city is fired upon by the enemy using trebuchets
loaded with greek fire. As the infirmary
burns again the Brethren force back the attackers. 13 are killed.
Kurgal 3 The Kort'baval or crisis point. Severely weakened
the Brethren are forced to fight to seal two
separate breaches and nine are killed, but they succeed and as the population
gains new hope
more new recruits join the defenders ranks.
Kurgal 4 The Babylonians launch a massive frontal assault
on the South gate using over nine thousand
troops, double the total number of defending troops. The assault is disrupted
by an "assault
group" led by the Brethren who counter attack. Over thirty die but the
attack is smashed.
Kurgal 5 Assassins scale the walls and Torcal's life
is saved by Egrimm who is seriously injured. At the
same time their is a night assault and Felix and Vandor take command.
The attack is repulsed
but the South gate is destroyed.
Kurgal 6 In desperate street fighting, Egrimm and Torcal
rejoin the Brethren and try to hold off the
Babylonians. They are successful as, even though the outer walls are breached,
the attackers
are not able to breach the defence line set up around the gates to the
Imperial Palace. At the
end of this fighting only eight of the original fifty are left alive. That
evening the allied armies
break the siege and are surprised to discover that the city has not fallen.
In recognition of their
sacrifice the young Emir knights the Brethren "Chou-Hadra" or Warriors
of Renown.
THE FORGING
1076-
The Chou-Hadra forge a reputation as an effective and honourable mercenary
group and grow in size
1079
to 37.
1079
Compte Giovanni Ferettuech, the Castilian of the holy city of Remon seeks
out the Chou-Hadra and
pleads with them to fight for the Paxan lands. Swayed by his honesty the
Chou-Hadra travel to the lands
of the Pontiff and join the war to save the lands fro the Vandrell invasion.
1080 Torcal marries Ysabelle, only daughter of Giovanni.
1079-
The Chou-Hadra lead one of the three armies, the Army of the North, which
pushes back the
1081
Vandrell to the Tuscan hills. Then Giovanni dies suddenly and is replaced
by a new Pontiff.
March 1081
'The Edict of Jude' is passed which bans all non humans from owning property,
travelling freely or holding
any court position within the boundaries of the Paxan lands. Further more,
all non humans of less than
three generations lineage are to be exiled immediately.
The army of the north, numbering almost half non humans, is lead by the
Chou-Hdara into Lombardy
where, at the castle of Boreth, the High Kor'tova sits to decide whether
to wage war against the new
Pontiff. Ysabelle dies in childbirth and Torcal's only child, a son, apparently
dies also.
Deciding against such an action the debate rages as to what the next course
of action should be.
At the same time the Pontiff persuades his council of Bishops to level
a great curse to destroy the
army. The curse causes an Earthquake which destroys the castle of Boreth.
Raj snatches Vandor to
save him from death, but so close is the bond of the Chou-Hadra that his
companions are drawn with
him: Torcal Khan, Duar Soulburner, Egrimm Von Helbras, Felix Jeigah, Arran
Wandera and Zachery
Moors.
THE SUNDERING
Of the original eight Chou-Hadra, the last, Sturgeth Two-Swords, is killed
before Vandor is taken.
Hapslionn and Bowreth Arrow heart survive and lead the remnants of the
army to safety. Raj then
continues to move Vandor from realm to realm, seemingly at random.

June 1096
The Chou-Hadra finally return to Illyria. Travelling to Boreth they discover
the ruined castle
and the cairn to commemorate Sturgeth, but can stills sense the essence
of Chou-Hadra within
the Realm. Determined to find their brothers the Chou-Hadra split and whilst
some are drawn
to the Angels of Illyria, others are drawn to Blackrose and the Blades
of Alabrak.
THE WANDERING
1097
The Chou-Hadra slowly make their way to Edreja and the Gathering. Still
seeking other
Brethren they keep their identities secret until they are sure of the Unicorns.
1098 Having established themselves in their new homeland the Chou-Hadra reform.
THE JOINING
The Gathering 1098
Gifted with a vision by Kaleth, Torcal declares Alarielle to be the first
Forebringer, the guide
who will lead the Chou-Hadra to their destiny.
An intense period of two months follows in which much changes. Duar, now
finally of age
leaves the Brethren. In his place comes Quinn Dark Owl, warrior bard and
Head of House
Dark Owl. He is also revealed to be the long lost brother of Alarielle.
Quinn's younger brother,
Alaeric also joins, along with his wife, Aran Ravenswood, owed a life bond
by Torcal. Soon
after come Shazell Calmar and her sister Balkerie and Mogwi. It is also
revealed that Torcal's
son did not die during Child birth and so, after a brief misunderstanding,
is reunited with his
father.
These new recruits joined their fellow Chou-hadra in a pilgrimage to the
lands of the Junn in
Illyria and collect some of the stones of Hijx, said to possess mystical
properties in the first
part of Torcal's life bond.
Where these Warriors of Renown walked, others soon followed, and the Chou-Hadra
swelled
in time for the band to go on the next step of their quest for their destiny.
THE TESTING
The Accounting 1098
Fungus and Egrimm are drawn by their blood to join the Vipers' faction.
Alarielle, believing
her duty done by drawing the Houses together, steps aside to pursue an
affair of the heart.
Lord Admiral Blackrose joins with the Chou-Hadra, House Dark Owl and the
ladies of the
Knight to form a new group; Sietch-Iban - The Houses of Shadows. The Chou-Hadra
then
adopt a more hidden role to better serve their adopted homeland. Granted
an island estate for
their service they Christen it Boreth after their previous home.
Elgrath arrives from another realm and seems to possess the spirit of a
Chou-Hadra warrior.
News is received that Torcal Khan has been mortally wounded and Vandor
leads the rest of
the Chou-Hadra to Boreth in an attempt to save his life.
Founders Night 1099
Elgrath becomes increasingly erratic as the barrier between our realm and
the realm of
magic grows weaker. Many new members join the Chou-Hadra and Quinn DarkOwl,
Arron
Ravenswood and Shazell Calmar gain their sixth knot. Torcal is imbued with
the power of
Calbreah who returns him to life after having mysteriously died. The origins
of the Liber
Verminous are revealed as some of the history of Boreth is revealed. Alah-Aroo
and
Calbreah both return to Calrah. Sietch-Iban is established and the council
appointed.
Official links with the Kahla people are also made.
Spring World Trade Fair 1099
Many Chou-Hadra distinguish themselves while trying to escape the Shadow
Realm.
Three new members join and many more gain knots, with a significant number
entering the
mind-link for the first time. Torcal, Vandor, Grendal and Quinn lead an
assault to recapture
Eldorado from the grip of Dark Trade. Their assault is repelled and they
take many casualties,
most notably Grendal who must spend time recuperating in hospital. Lady
Arron acquires a
bracelet from the dream realm that allows her to suppress Ancalime the
Black.
Get Stuffed 1099
At Get Stuffed Grendal reappeared, only his appearance and demeanour had
changed. He no
longer wore the clothing of a warrior and had taken to calling himself
‘Tobias-Grendal’ or just
Tobias. He had also gained the power to manipulate the very power of the
void and to shape it
in many creative ways. He claimed the role of the forebringer and through
out the event he
proved that his claim was true.
Early into Get Stuffed Lady Arron Ravenswood was attacked by Minions of
the Black
League. A bracelet that she had acquired at the Spring World Trade fair
that allowed her to
suppress Ancalime the Black was stolen and Black returned with a vengeance.
She ordered
the Chou-Hadra to lead a quest into the spirit realm to retrieve her spirit
foci, a Black
Unicorn's horn. She offered to release Arron forever if the Chou-Hadra
performed this task
and so they agreed.
Before this could be achieved however, the black league attacked again
and kidnapped Quinn
DarkOwl. Unbeknown to the Chou-Hadra, while this kidnap was taking place
Alaeric DarkOwl,
Quinn's brother, was bleeding to death after being attacked by a vampire.
Alaeric died and
Vandor, along with Torcal, Mogwi and Torvac went to rescue Quinn. When
they found him
they were outnumbered by the Black League nearly two to one and Quinn was
being held
with a cold Iron sword against his throat. Unable to control the rage brought
on by the cold iron,
Vandor ran at Quinn's captor and slaughtered him, before he himself was
brought down by the
rest of the minions. Vandor was not quick enough to prevent harm to Quinn,
whose throat was
cut by the blood metal. After both Torcal and Vandor had been taken down,
Ancalime the
Black appeared and chastised The Black League for slaughtering her ‘Playthings’.
She
then healed Vandor and Torcal back to their feet and Vandor was able to
heal Quinn's wounds.
However, due to the effect of the blood metal, he did not regain consciousness.
The following day, still in mourning for Alaeric, Vandor led a party into
the spirit realm to
recover the black unicorn horn. Already having given up the role and power
of the Zantai,
Vandor was a bit confused when he didn't need to take the poison to enter
the spirit realm.
When he entered the spirit realm he fell to his knees due to the spiritual
shock, only to find
that he had not changed form like the rest of the party. The sky
was black and dark as the
corrupting influence of Ancalime the Black spread through the spirit realm.
Once there he
was confronted by many strange creatures and beings, notably the Dark Trade
spirits of the
Chou-Hadra, evil spirits that had taken on human form. He rushed at the
Dark Trade essence
of Torcal and managed to deal him a fatal blow before being subdued
himself. As they quested
through the realm he became more and more confused. The party eventually
recovered the
horn and made their way safely back to the mortal realm.
When the ritual to return the horn to Black took place, the Chou-Hadra
had a surprise in
store for her. They knew that Black would not honour her promise to return
Arron and so they
used the power of the horn against her. As Black cut a swathe through the
trinity, fatally
wounding Shazell and Paralysing Torcal, Tobias was able to complete his
invocation and
summoned forth Raj. Vandor fell to the ground screaming with agony as the
spirit of Raj
coursed through him once again. When the pain subsided Vandor's body rose
to his feet, the
spirit of Raj within it. Raj attacked Black but, as he empowers the Chou-Hadra
so they
empower him. With most of the contributors still down he was no match for
Black and she
forced him to his knees. As the Chou-Hadra were raised by Quinn the power
began to swing
back towards Raj, and as the trinity reformed the power swung completely
against Black. She
could not hope to defeat the power of Six Gods and the Chou-Hadra and Raj
was able to banish
her from the circle. Raj spoke briefly with Torcal after cleansing Arron's
pattern before
collapsing to the ground, his energy spent. The Chou-Hadra were unable
to rouse Vandor when
the spirit of black returned, all be it in a different form. It was at
this point that Vandor Cardain
ceased to exist and Raj-Vandor was born.
THE CHOICE
The Gathering 1099
The time came to make the final step on the journey. All Brethren were
asked whether they
were willing to defend the Kwisach Haderach with their lives. Vandor, Torcal,
Felix, Zachery,
Tobias-Grendal, Lady Arron, Egrimm and Fungus all chose to take the final
step. Those that
did not passed beyond the mind link and left the Brethren. Making a new
home within the
Bears Faction, the Chou-Hadra await the birth of the Kwisach Haderach and
the next step of
their destiny.
