Squirrel: Hi again! Thanks for all your email last week - now we know why Oubliette is called what it is! Also, I mentioned last week about Fox Television requiring that some content be removed from various web sites. While surfing last week I ran across a letter Fox (or actually their attorneys) sent some poor webmaster. Read it for yourself at (http://geocities.datacellar.net/Baja/8060/letter.html). But now on with our reviews. Our first site this week is called Fox & Dana's Home Page (http://scully.mulder.com/default.htm). I'm not giving anything away, but make sure you let your browser stay at the top of the page until it's fully loaded. The graphic is so-o-o-o cute!!! The designers of this site - The Lone GunBabes - has done a superior job. Yes, I admit this site hasn't been updated in months, and it is rather a one-trick pony, it's very cute and very well-done. Moose on the loose: First, any website that mentions both X-Files and Robert Heinlein gets a resounding COOL in my book. So starts the "Fox & Dana's Home Page"! This is one hot, super website, and you all must visit it today. You must email the The Lone GunBabes and demand more material. You must! S: Fox and Dana each have their own pages, where Dana gives some links of sites she likes (make sure to check out where she found some 'interesting' reading) and where Fox admits he has (or had) an internet addiction, and gives out a link to a pic of a 'hot, steamy babe' as well as a place he's dying to have a drink. M: Of course the NFL, MLB and NBA would have websites, thanks Mulder, you fink, for reminding how I don't have the "sports gene"! The jokes abound here, and all very topical. I spent half my time here nodding my head when I saw the links, saying to myself "Of course!" Want to know about seeds by the truckload? And the most frightening sunflower seed? The UFO search page had Mormon pre-typed in the screen. Was this random? And the bar joke is really a double joke, if you know the source material! Nice research! S: There's a page on their wedding (notice the date) complete with pictures, and a page on what they do all day long. M: The biggest problem with this site is there is so darn much! And it's all top quality! The graphics are smooth, the links dead on and the writing is in character. My only complaint might be the dialogues Mulder and Scully have are maybe a little too flirty. But look beyond that and see what they actually say. More marriages might actually be saved if people talked this candidly! S: All in all, a cute, funny spoof page that's very well done and well worth a visit. Our second site this week is The Original X-Files Alphabet Book (http://www.iinet.net.au/~jcw/xfiles/). I believe this site originally started with just The Alphabet book, but the webmaster has expanded his site since that first huge undertaking. M: This is one of those sites that make me wonder why I even bother to diddle with HTML! A website that is not only rich in content, but in style and looks, and reaches out to fellow fans and gives them a heap of stuff to read, this one goes to the top three! This one gets bookmarked, and I joined the mailing list right off! S: Each letter of the alphabet has a page that lists words from the show - like "A" is for "Autopsy - Any dedicated X-Phile knows not to eat during their favourite show. Scully's probing observations don't make for dinner conversation." Or "E" is for "Èì 'aanììgòò 'àhoot'è - The Navajo translation of 'The Truth Is Out There,' which replaced that phrase in the opening titles of Anasazi". There are lots of words for each letter, along with a sidebar that has Episodes, Tidbits, Captions, and Quotes. And there are pictures on each page, too! M: Jokes aside, this is a nice effort at giving up information about the show in short, clever blurbs. Although there is a strong attempt to avoid spoilers, sometimes it happens in this area. Don't read these if that's a problem for you. Elephant? There's an episode with an elephant? But, one nice little bonus here is some of the articles on the show, and the cast members. It's handy to have it all in one spot! S: This site is an amazing piece of work. Talk about seamless html- this is it. M: And that's just the old address! The intro pages for the new address are… stunning! Nice set of bones! S: Yeah, the webmaster Simon Wright announces in the news section that he's planning to move the site to a new location. The new home isn't functional yet, but if you follow the links, you can see for yourself the new front pages. Excellent, high-class, high quality work. Can't wait to see the new digs. Well, that's it for now! As always, we love email, so send us some at moosnsqril@aol.com. See you next week! Just click the little space dog below! back to the beginning |
