You step out of the forest into the log cabin. It takes a moment for your eyes to adjust to the change of light, then you see the place layed out like a tavern. There are lanterns on the walls and one large fire place. In the center of the room, there are tables spaced evenly apart. Off to the left, a bar stretchs the length of the room. Behind the bar is a large man with red hair, a bushy mustache, and a smile from ear to ear. In front of you, a scroll is mounted, telling of the events of that day and night. On the far wall, there are two doors, one open and one closed. The open one obviously leads to the kitchen, it's the other door that interests you. Sitting next to the door on a stool, away from the action, sits a solitary figure wrapped in a dark green cloak with the hood pulled up. The hood shadows the figures face but you can see some locks of golden hair streaming out the sides.
As you approach the door, the cloaked figure stretches his arm out to bar your path. He tilts his head to look in your face and as you make eye contact, a shiver runs down your spine. You find yourself looking back into the cleartest blue eyes you've ever seen and you feel as if they are looking right through you, straight into your soul. "Be wary, traveler." he says in a soft, melodic voice. "Beyond this door lie portals to other realms. Take care which doors you open. Look first at the portal you wish to enter."
With his last words, he retracts his arm and motions you past with his head. You break eye contact and step forward. The knob resists your efforts to turn it but you force it and the heavy wooden door open. The hinges protest against your effort and they creak as you continue to press them open. As you step through the doorway, you find yourself in a long, wooden hallway. The scent of pine assaults your nose. It's lined on both sides by doors identical to the one you just passed through. Between every few doorways is a brazier, made of what looks like copper, with flames burning within. The flames cast shadows that dance on the walls, giving the hall an eerie feel to it. You can feel an energy coursing through it that makes your hair stand on end.
As you walk down the corridor, you glance at some of the doors. In the center of each door, you see what appear at first glance to be strange, indecipherable runes, but when you blink and look back at them, they are simple English letters. You pass many doors to worlds that don't interest you. There are several forks and corners and you simply proceed where your whim takes you. Suddenly, after turning one corner, you reach the end of the Hall. There are several doors on each side of you and then a wall. In front of the wall is a wooden podium on which sits at tome that appears ancient. It lies closed at the moment and you see more runes on the cover, yet before your very eyes, the runes start to move and reshape themselves until you can reead the words "The Tome of Travelers." Beside the tome lies a quill sitting in an inkpot.
