In Wite Wolf the world as it is portrayed is just a short step sideways form our own. They refer to it as Gothic Punk.

Gothic: Because its a little darker, the shadows really do hide secrets, and the buildings are towering structures with gargoyals and archwork. And every once in a while it almost seems one of them moves.

Punk: Because coruption and decay are rampant all government is corupt living high in the deep pockets of industrial giants who want to take our world rip it open suck it dry and toss it in the trash.

It is a world where the myths and monsters of legend walk umong us, secretly following thier own agendas. Fighting wars that will shape the future of a world that would sooner disect them or burn them at the stake that accept thier phantom hand in the history of the mortal world.
