THE
ROSE
As I walked along the pathway of life
I spied you from the corner of my eye
standing amongst the wildflowers
I was captivated by your beauty
your fragrance was pleasing to smell
your color was unlike any other that I had beheld
I plucked you gently from that earth
gently and lovingly I carried you back to my garden
there I planted you among the other flowers
I watered, nurtured and cared for you, like all the
others in the garden
Perhaps a little more
Yet you grew quicker, stronger and more
alluring than all the others
The storms and winds threaten to take you from the garden
yet you had a strong root
and with a little tender loving care
your strength and beauty returned
you grew tall and strong and stood out from the rest
you were kissed all over each morning by the dew
enhancing your radiance
How I envy the dew.
You are the rose of friendship my dear
friend.

FLAME
It started with a spark
It grew into a flame
The flame became a fire
The fire burned ever so brightly
but Alas, all that is left is embers
What shall become of them ?
Shall they die out?

The Angel
Angels are all around us
Angels are watching over us
So we are told
I know this to be true
For now I have an Angel beside me
That Angel is you
Many think it is easy
For an Angel to find a mortal
I am here to tell you
It is not always easy
My Angel slipped through the portal
On her way to find her mortal
As she flew onwards
Winds held her back
Try as she might
No forward progress did she make
All through the day and into the night
She kept on trying
Her mission she took not light
She dare not turn back
Not without a fight
One day things changed
The winds were gone
And she found her mortal charge
Was reaching out to her
From beneath a dark barrage
The mortal did reach his Angel
The Angel did reach her mortal
The Angel told of her mission
The mortal told of his need
A bond was formed
From that first moment
And none may prevail
Even if they storm it
So the mortal has his Angel
The Angel has her charge
Sent from heaven above
Someone that each other can love.

Treasure
Things are not always what they seem
sometimes underneath is some thing that beams
A portrait painted dark and dreary
can often hide the inner beauty
Must not be to hasty to judge
lest you find yourself mired in sludge
and miss out on something that can not be begrudged
I was told of someone dark and evil
yet when I looked for myself I found
something stark and unbelievable
What someone else considered junk
I found to be a treasure
We ought not always look with the eyes
of our head
but look with the eyes of our heart instead
Only then can we find that gem beyond
price
and wouldn't that be oh so nice
It is always good to find the truth for
one's self
lest we deprive ourselves of a great wealth

Your love is like sunshine
It covers and surrounds me
and makes for a brighter day
It drives away the shadows
Your love is like sunshine
I can bathe in it
It energizes my body and soul
I can play in it.
Your love is like sunshine
I can feel it on my skin
It is warm and comforting
It adds color to my world
Your love is like sunshine
It radiates outward from its source
to encompass all within its course
Combined with the gentle breeze of your words
It makes my own sunshine unfurl
Your love is like sunshine
With it around me it causes things to grow
It inspires the poet in my soul
It is clear and bright
Shedding it's light upon my path in life

It arises to greet my day
Unlike real sunshine that fades away
Nothing can eclipse the sunshine of your love

Seed
It was like a seed planted in the
garden
A chance that the soil might not be right
Or that there would not be the right amount of water
Or that there might not be the right amount of sun
But thus it was begun
The seed did fall on rich and fertile
soil
The seed did receive the proper amount of water
The seed received enough sun to make it grow
And thus it was begun
Grow this
seed did
Growing each and every day
Bigger and stronger
Withstanding all types of tests that Mother Nature deals
It’s
taproot runs deep and strong
It’s leaves broad and green
Its branches are like the vine
And thus have begun to intertwine

love
It’s planted in our hearts
There it found all it needed to grow
And grow it did and grow it does

Ah my heart
It does quicken
It does wander
Towards the day
When all hearts
Stop and think
About something
That can be
Oh so sweet
What is this sweet
You may ask
But your heart
Already knows
For it has tasted
Of this sweet

Is special
And sometimes rare
For it is
The love two hearts
Can share
So on this Valentine’s day
Let our hearts draw close
So that we can

Birthday
Looking
everywhere
Looking high, looking low
Looking hither, thither and yond
Looking through the oceans depths
and still what I seek eludes me
So thus my
quest was begun
to seek from land to land
that which I sought to hold in my hand
Some thing that would be just grand
Finding some
things that were nice
but just were not worthy of their price
too large, too small, too fragile,
and still not grand enough.
At last I
thought my quest would fail,
when I spied it like a tail.
I acquired it forthwith
To give an Angel as a gift
Alas the item
did not make the grade
and I wondered if such an item could be made
it did not seem so
As I had searched to and fro
So, I decided
to make my own
Something that could be shown
Something that would be grand
that an Angel could hold in their hand
So now I am
back where I began
looking for something oh so grand
but now I seek in my heart
for something that will touch an Angel’s heart
So here it is
and I present
to the Angel my special gift
A wish for health, wealth and happiness

Come with me
around the bend

this is a gift that one can send

Something better one could not make

The night is
cold and clear
I can see your star from here
I wonder if I’ll burn if I get to near
Blazing
brightly into the night
I gaze upon it with much delight
I wish I may,

Reach out and touch your star tonight
Travel across

The star that used to shine for me?
You can into orbit one dark night
Your light bathed over me
Your twinkle gave me much delite

To assume an orbit in some other place?

Gardens are planted

MISSING
A FRIEND
You came into the circle of my life
Like two strangers that meet one night
Shy at first, but warming to camaraderie
You got to know me and I got to know you
Strangers at first but then to become friends
Talking about life, love and family
To me that came to mean a lot
Then one day that all changed
We still kept in touch
But I missed talking with you as much
This sent my mind to wondering about all kinds of things
Had I done or said some wrong thing
Or was it that your life had changed
And you had not the time for a friendship that way
I wonder if you know how much your friendship means to me
I mourn and grieve at the loss
Of the close friendship between you and me
But where ever you are
I wish for you health and happiness

Dreams of you dance in my head
As I lay here sleeping in bed
Nothing sexy or especially sweet
Yet of a place where two friends meet
There the walls and barriers are down
Sometimes bringing a laugh, smile or frown
Words said that can lift spirits up
Such as one gets when playing with a pup.
Though in person we've never met
We are as close as two friends can get
Who knows, we might meet yet
On that you can bet
In the meantime the gulf is spanned
From heart to heart and hand to hand
Across wires that cross the land
And in my dreams, that band

You're Gone
Gone you are now
and that is sad enough
but without knowing why
it's a bitter pill to take
For your own reasons
you withheld the true "why"
leaving us to speculate
Left behind are your friends
who are scratching their heads
having to accept your decision instead
We have to come up with a
"why"
in order to rationalize
why you are gone now
We could have talked about
it
and that might have helped
instead of keeping it to yourself
But gone you are now
and that is a fact
missed you are and missed you will be
if only there was a way for you to see.

My
Dad
My Dad was a mountain of a
man
sometimes hard and strict
sometimes soft and gentle
most of all loving always
Struck in the prime of his
life
Down, but not out
adapt and overcome is what he did
Learning new things
so he would not stagnate
and be able to communicate
He firmly embraced his faith
He spread his own brand of joy and cheer
to all that were near
He is gone now from the
earth
Yet living on in hearts and minds
as they recall him from time to time
Remembered as father, husband and friend
Remembered as a fighter until the end
Remembered for collecting monkeys,
exchanging smiley faces
and most of all his Eskimo kisses.

Effects
A sickness of the mind they
call it
Whether this act is done by
A stranger, friend or member of family
Yet is it simply a sickness
Or is it an ego trip
Is it about power?
The mind is a complicated
thing
Men and women spend years in the study of it
And sometimes a mind will surprise them
Left behind after the fact
Are anger, outrage and bewilderment.
The one to whom it was done
Is left behind with fear and mental scars
A trust broken
A fear left in its place
One that remains throughout the years
A fear to trust
A cautiousness of love
A fear to be intimate
With lots of love, caring
and understanding
The fear and trepidation may be overcome
The heart goes out to them
Wanting to wrap them in a loving hug

OLDIES 100.7 MORNING CREW
Tuna, Oz and Ali, the oldies 100.7 morning crew
Who sometimes act like children who never grew
First there is Ali and her sporty buck-a-wow
Then there is Oz, oh wow
Then we have the king staple fish of the sea
Rounding out the trio of three
Oz brings us the morning news
Ali brings us Raleigh's traffic blues
Tuna ties it all together with jocularity and mirth
Thank goodness Tuna and Company are here on the earth.

THE FRUSTRATED GRIND
Kept in the Dark
Told nothing without having to ask
Asking can be like pulling teeth
Sometimes feeling like you're beating your head against a wall
Eventually learning it's easier not to ask
Leaving others to wonder why you didn't know
No method to the madness
Expecting the ability to read minds
Logical only to the source from whence it comes
Thing and beings whither and die in the dark
Yet they grow and thrive in the light
Producing more within its glow
The glow of good information flow
Makes one yearn and appreciate when comes time to escape
Makes it hard to get up each morning
Knowing another day in the dark awaits
Occasionally comes a glimpse of appreciation
Which makes it worth it for a little while
Only to be plunged back into the dark

Little things can mean so much
A smile, a hug, a kiss
A smile is a frown turned upside down
A smile can bring light and cheer
Into a day that is otherwise dark and drear
A smile increases face value
A hug is a simple thing
A renewable resource
The more given, the more that will be received
Sharing warmth, loving and care within the circle of arms
A kiss can mean a lot
Showing a sign of friendship when on a cheek

Sitting here in a dark and dreary place
Absent is the light that warms the land
Ruin and decay everywhere I look
Tears falling down my face
Where, Oh where is a smiling face
A smile to give hope and cheer

Where are thou summer day
A day to drive the chill away
Bringing forth roses for to smell
Be gone cruel winter
With branches bare everywhere
Making the land look a cold, desolate and lonely place

Time the elusive commodity
Sometimes seems as if there is not enough
Other times seems as if too much
Not enough to do the things one wants
Rushing to and fro to meet deadlines
Striving to squeeze the most into it
Sometimes having to much time on one's hands
Passing oh so slowly. Tick Tock
Finding little and silly things to pass it
Losing time in traffic
Losing or gaining it as the seasons pass
No two timepieces ever displaying the same
Yearning sometimes for it to pass faster
Other times wondering where it has gone
Youngsters growing up before your eyes
Friends and family passing on when their time is up
Time that elusive commodity
Make the most of it
Savor it
It will not pass this way again
