Armin Shimerman And Harry Groener

Armin enjoys working with other writers, because you can bounce ideas off each other. He's not good enough to work alone.

Harry described the mayor as a regular guy, easy going.

Q: Is there a part of yourself in the characters?

Harry: Yes, he is a demon and very tasty. (More seriously) Sense of humour.

Armin: His well behaved part is what he drew on for Snyder. (I think he went on to say he was by nature quite a businesslike person, or something similar). Quark allowed him to play outside the box, and be less conventional.

Q: Who would you like to have had more scenes with?

Harry: Scenes with Faith. Also not enough with Sarah. Tony was a pain in the ass. (Joke!)

Armin: Sarah is a marvel. There is one scene they did together… this is kind of an actor thing… he was being shot over her shoulder, so she was back to the camera. He totally forgot his lines, but she cued him, saying them silently to him so he could lip-read. Alison is an amazing, wonderful person.

Q: About the Quark makeup, was the magenta around the eyes deliberate?

He had a makeup woman who was told to do his makeup her first day at work, and she decided to add her own touch. She thought the magenta would look great with his blue eyes. It was a few days before anyone spotted what she was doing, and by then it was too late to change it!

Q: What was it like when he heard he had the role of Quark in DS9?

He was a Trek fan. He was delighted when he did TNG. When he heard about the part he did everything he could to get a reading (i.e. audition). He was waiting for 6 weeks to hear, then they told him they wrote the role for him!
