Espresso: The Real World

Defy The Pain By Jennifer W.

What to do?
I do not know

For I am sinking,
far below

A thimble full,
of tasted haste

The word,
is always wait

Now I've waited,
and for what?

An empty promise,
and broken heart

Such things as these,
can bring a man to his knees.

But for a woman,
she must be strong.

Defy the pain,
and carry on
The Human Chain By Jess M.

Driving to the movies,
just wanting to have fun,
A foggy night, a busy road,
soon terror had begun.

Four teenagers in that car,
Destined to collide that night,
Were hit by a smoker,
Searching for a light.

Their car, it was totaled,
Four lives gone just like that,
Or like the doctor said,
Their lines just went flat.

An eerie stillness filled that night,
But the real injustice was done the next day,
The smoker that had hit them just
Up and walked away.

But around the globe,
A new life was brought into this world,
At the very same time
They lost the last girl.

It is said our lives are connected,
When a person dies, another is born,
So that babe around the world lives,
Because a girl died one early morn.

So, yes, I do believe,
in that great big human chain,
Because of that one night
Those four teenagers were slain.

So since we're all connected,
I guess when our lives end,
We can be sure that somewhere,
A new life will begin.
Treasure Hunt By Jennifer M.

The small treasures still remain
In the cracks and holes in the concrete
Where no one has looked
Because they have found their own

Others are happy because they cling
Cling to their worthless junk
That fills their homes
And clutters their conversation

But what is left?
What could not be taken.
The small treasures in recesses
The things you have to FIND

And through all your life you must
Continue on until you learn
To reach into the dark to claim what is yours
And to live until you find it

And they will be your own
And support you when you fall
Guiding you so you
Can guide yourself
Never Words By "A"

If seashells preach for money,
and eggshells preach for fame,
and if pearls make the journey
but yolks create the game,
then we must be loved for beauty
and we must be loved for face,
And loving is a duty
and we all must take our place.
No fighting can be done
for what is rightfully yours,
and sometimes you can't have the sun
when it rains and pours.
So sit down and please don't cry,
let your tears be tears.
You must be quiet so you die
with your hopes and fears.
Let the silence ground you,
never speak a word;
for they will never ask who,
and you will never be heard.
Raindrops turn into starshine,
dew turns into clouds;
You can turn into nine,
and one person into crows.
Never let them get you,
never let them see,
And then you'll save the millions
Millions like you and me.
Real World Setbacks By Megan B.

I breathe out...
Giving up all hopelessness
How many times have you wanted to run
Wanted to scream and yell,
At the mentors which taught you nothing?
From the emptiness and helplessness you escape,
Running into a world of fantasy.
Hiding there afraid to come out,

Surprise! It's a dream.
Here's the real world
Full of idiots, druggies, and parents
Which hold you back from reaching your true potential.

Your fantasy world is collapsing
It won't hold out long
They'll find you
Find a hiding spot
You know it will never hold out forever
But you're too afraid to fight
The real world is different
People actually care about the stuff in peoples' lives
And they care if someone crosses over,
Becoming more than an acquaintance wanting to know all
They come to get you,
You run
Faster than ever before
Haha!
Your running!
Not fast enough
They're coming to get you…
They're going to find you…
Going to get you someday….
No use in running..
They're here
That someday is now!
Dance By Kat O.

Where jiving
Is quick
Kids dance
With the impression
This raw real reality
Is all some joke
To be pushed to the limit.
A Summer Too Long Ago By Jenny M.

The lazy, hazy summer
The age when I felt secure
Sleeping late, staying up till twelve
I conjured spirits with my friend
Hiding in her bedroom
And pretended I was a hero, some where else
And I sung every night on stage
Memorizing lines for my play
I'd pull back my short hair and swim every morning
And I usually skipped breakfast
I wore sunglasses and loved my friends
Tasted the best snowcones, forgot to read books
My backyard was another planet
When I jumped in its puddles
I didn't notice other problems
Living for each blissfull moment
Sleeping late and watching the clouds
Memories By Dianne

Memories, free-floating and alive,
blurred and retouched,
snapshots and movies,
vivid and cloudy,
a life full of memories,
and more to come,
to live is to remember,
to truly live is to return,
to those half eaten images,
time and again happily,
emotions tied to those pieces of time,
to feel them again makes it truly special,
to hunger for more makes you alive,
writing them down makes you wise,
telling them to others breathes life,
to those who hear them, and makes you immortals,
memories, never dying,
yet born and reborn over time.
Silence of the Groves, Anonymous

A slight crunch beneath
My deeply leaded slippers
Foretells the future

When nature's mage coat
Doth change white from kaleido
As Jack rise once more

Thus I leave the grove
Of Gaea's former beauty
Now left in the grave

For all of mankind
To see, metamorphoses
Of change, appearance

I see the visions
Once again, through impaired sights
Wishing for freedom

To set my soul free
Life's menacing bonds and chains
On my withering soul

I lose my mem'ries
To the past mnemonias
As I remember

The silence of the groves
Voices By Dianne

Shhh! I hear voices whispering,
Do you hear them too?
When you close your eyes do they disappear?
Like a bad dream just remembered?
Or do they stay even when they are opened?
What do they say to you?
Is it different from what I hear?
The yelling, the screaming,
the cries for help?
Are they singing Angel Songs?
Or are they in a language no one may comprehend?
Do you listen?
Or just shut them out?
I listen, it is interesting what they say,
They tell me beautiful secrets,
What! But I am crazy they say!
Well, listen and you might know what I know,
Do you still hear them?
Are they whispering to you again?
Did you scare them off with your ignorance?
Or are you just afraid?
