I LOVE TELEVISION

Okay its that time again. Time for us middle-agers to bite our nails in anticipation of the new Fall television shows. As we drive home from work or fix dinner we eagerly plan our evening in front of the TV in order to catch a few laughs or make a few gasps. What should we watch? Does anyone actually use a VCR for its original intented purpose: to tape a tv show that you can't watch at its original time for whatever reason and then watch it at your convience at another time? I can say that I very rarely do, but then again convienient time seems hard to come by these days. So we catch a few shows here and there while we help our kids with their homework or actually do our own homework. It seems that television has become nothing more than a visiual accessory for the kids nintendo or playstation or whatever. Well when we do finally get that chance to watch uninterrupted TV we want to see something that is entertaining. There are alot of new shows on this Fall and it is appropriate that they premire in the Fall because that is what most will do...Fall on their faces and be sent to that failed sitcom bin in the basement of some major network. Undoubtedly there will be a show one becomes attached to. You know one of those shows that you leave work early for or speed home to catch? I know people who swear they always obey the speedlimit, but if they are running late to see their favorite TV show get out of their way they are comming through! I am not going to criticize anyones entertainment because I know we all have different tastes. I understand that some people like to watch grown men in tights beat each other up (I do), I also know that others love to see medical dramas where the amount of tramas that occur overexceed most cities population. Hey I like both of these, if television was "real life" I do not think I would like it a whole lot; with the exception of news or documentaries telvision is, or was intented to provide people with entertainment and so what if it is unrealistic, if thats what I wanted to see I would look out my window at my neighbors houses with the beercan decorated yards and the plastic pink flamingo lawn ornaments and wonder how in the hell did I get here? Yes I know some of us think that TV is sometimes too relistic, hey imagination only takes what it knows and enhances or edits it. Honestly there isn't much on Tv that I find totally unentertaining, sitcom wise that is. Alot of the talk shows are really starting to bore me , but I am not trying to upset anyone by knocking them , it is just my prefrence. If you like watching Oprah and Rosanne, then hey that is your choice and you are entitled to it.

So what am I ranting and raving about? Television in all it's splendor and glory is still just that: television. It is another form of entertainment for anyone who has the resources and the time to use it as they wish. Yes I know it is also a channel for advertisement, but we are not forced to watch commercials. Is there violence, sex, profanity, etc..on TV? Ummmmmm...is a three peckered tree frog horny? Of course there is. Is it real? NO!! It is TV, and although you can see real stories, caught on video, cops, etc... that is just a small consumption of TV space. Don't like it , don't watch it dammit! I am not condoning violence and I do like a good love story or a comedy now and then, but hey I like to watch action too. Of course you are entitled to your own opinion and please feel free to let me know what that is, I love feedback and debate and I love to "get it off my chest"

Bottom line? I love TV, I love to laugh and to cry , I love to have my emotions torn apart. Television is not the only source of entertainment that supplies these things. Playing sports, watching sports, taking a walk, picking toenails out of my teeth, listening to music, reading, the list goes on and on and on. We all (yes of course there are exceptions) like to be entertained and how one chooses to do so is their buisness. So when you get ready to criticize someone for liking something you do not, remember that they may not like playing bridge or watching Crossfire, or playing Bingo, listening to RAP, etc...etc...etc... so keep your mouth shut. It is okay to voice your opinion, but do not put the another person down for not sharing it. Thanks for reading and please send your responses to me by clicking Oprah below.....she always has alot to say.
