Gastric Bypass - Open RNY
| May 21, 2003---I'm a 47 yr old woman, who has battled weight issues off and on most of my adult life. As a kid, I THOUGHT I was fat, until I got older and knew the difference. Bad body image all my life. I have had medical issues over the last 10 yrs that have impaired my living and most of them are weight related. I now weigh 328 and I need to do something serious. I am only 5'3", so I consider myself to be "round". After all ROUND is a good shape......but not for me. :)
One of my best friends Jacki is considering WLS and we got to talking about it enough, that it got me curious. I started doing research on my own and found this site and the videos of Carnie Wilson's surgery and the interview she did with the six other people. THAT did it for me... I was convinced. There were so many iffy situations that I was uncomfortable with until I saw that. I'm not saying that I am not dreadfully fearful.. I have NEVER had major surgery in my life....but I have had three kids.....so how bad can it be? LOL! The doctor who will be doing my surgery is Dr. M. Bono, from Hazelton General Hospital in Hazelton, PA. He's a great doc, with great references! More about him later. I have Capital BC/BS PPO, so I truly doubt that I will have problems. August 19, 2003--- I finally got to meet Dr Bono today and he's awesome!!!!! He sincerely loves what he is doing, and cares deeply for his patients. He knows what he's talking about, been in this field for 10 yrs, with terrific sucess! He is constantly educating himself by going to conventions and lectures about obesity and wls, so he's up on the latest and newest things. He runs a support group that is WELL attended by his patients, both pre and post and their friends and family members. I got all kinds of great info, and booklets to read and even a CD about the wls process. Excellent! I have a few of my pre-op tests scheduled with a LOT more to follow! Can't wait to get this process over with, so I can get to the 'other side'! :) I'm prepared for the worst..but hoping for the best! :)
